This advice applies to the 2024/25 academic year.

For those of you who took Late Summer Assessments (LSAs) this year, results are now being released by UCL. There's not a specific 'results day', and results may be confirmed from now until around 6 October 2025.
We know this can be a stressful time so we’ve put together some useful information about what happens next.

Results release

You should receive your marks to your UCL email address, this could be any day from now until around 6 October 2025, depending on when your faculty approves the results. If you're unsure when your results will be confirmed, we advise contacting your department.

If you're an Undergraduate, you'll be emailed results and awards, or progression information if you're continuing your studies.

If you're a Postgraduate , usually your results won't be confirmed until the Autumn exam boards (in November 2025), but you may receive a summary of provisional Term 1, Term 2 and LSA results. Your award usually won't be available yet, you may have a dissertation still to complete.

Different programmes use different rules to calculate your final classification. You can find the standard regulations in the Academic Manual (Section 10 Classification).

Failed and deferred assessments

If you have failed or deferred any assessments, you will be notified of this in your results email.

If you have second attempts remaining at any assessments, or have deferred assessments, these are usually scheduled at the next available sitting. This may not be until the main assessment period in around April to June 2026.

If you're unsure when any resits or deferrals will take place, we advise contacting your department.

Unhappy with your results or need support?

If you are unhappy with your results, or would just like some general feedback, you may want to contact your department or personal tutor to arrange a time to discuss this. You can do this even if your results are provisional.

UCL's Student Support and Wellbeing Services team is also on hand if you would like some extra support. You can find more information about the support they can offer on results day here.

If you think that UCL’s academic regulations or procedures were not followed correctly in the marking of your exam, you may want to consider submitting an academic appeal. However, please note that it is not possible to submit an appeal on the basis of academic judgement. This means that appeals will not be considered on the grounds that you think the examiners’ assessment was incorrect. This is because all assessments will already have undergone a rigorous marking and moderating process.

You can also submit an academic appeal if there were circumstances which significantly affected your assessments, but you were unable to submit an Extenuating Circumstances claim at the time. Please note however that you will need to provide compelling reasons with supporting evidence to show why you were unable to notify your department of these circumstances during the period of your assessment.

You can appeal if you have received confirmation of your results via Portico and email. If you're a Postgraduate Taught student, you may not be able to appeal, unless any results are confirmed and added to Portico. This doesn't happen for all Postgraduate Taught programmes, in which case you'll need to wait until after the main exam boards in November to appeal.

We have a guide to the Academic Appeals process and a guide to completing the required form:

Please note - due to the volume of appeals UCL receive at this time of year, you are highly unlikely to receive an outome immediately. This means that if you aren't able to progress to your next year of study due to your results, this won't be resolved in time for the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

If you are hoping for a successful appeal outcome to be able to progess to the next year or complete your programme, there will be a delay before you know if this has been successful.

If you are considering making a change to your studies, such as a repetition of the past year or taking a break altogether, UCL has provided some advice here.

Certificate and Transcripts

If you have completed your degree, you will receive your certificate and a copy of your official transcript. They will be sent to your home address. You should receive these documents within 3 months of results day. Your home address details must be up to date on Portico

Finalists can also download a Statement of Award letter/e-transcript from Portico the day after you results are confirmed.  You can also access and share a Digital Award Certificate from around two weeks after results.

You can find more information about transcripts and award certificates on the UCL website.

Graduation

If you're a final year Undergraduate and took Late Summer Assessments, you unfortunately won't be eligible to attend the planned ceremony with your cohort.  Make sure your email address is up to date in Portico as you should still receive information about attending a ceremony during the 2026 graduation period.

If you're a Postgraduate student, you may be eligible to attend the planned ceremony with your cohort - you should check the FAQs below.

If you have any questions about your graduation, start by checking the Graduation FAQs.
