We were thrilled last month when our bars were awarded not one but two recognitions at the 2024 NUS Trading Conference. Gathering together Students’ Unions from across the country, our Bars Team were thrilled to receive Best Bar None Gold Accreditation and Best Cocktail Production Award this year.
On the win, our Venues and Entertainment Manager, Joanna Pulford said:
I am incredibly proud of our team and the outstanding recognitions they’ve received this year. From our commitment to creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for customers, through to the creativity and mixology skills showcased in the Institute’s cocktails; these awards really are a testament to the dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent of each and every member of our team and well-deserved.

Best Bar None Gold Accreditation
For the second year running; Huntley, Mully’s, Phineas and Institute have retained their Best Bar None Gold Accreditation! We’re proud to have won this award as the scheme assesses a venue's commitment to ensuring safer socialising through excellent safety, customer service and responsible alcohol management practices.
To achieve Gold standard, our bars were assessed on continuous venue safety and security maintenance, availability of staff training and care, and our ability to create a safe community space by championing customer welfare and service.
Deputy Venues Manager, James Bingham responsible for submitting our application said “It's really gratifying to have received this accreditation again, having first attained Silver in 2022, Gold in 2023, and now Gold again in 2024, it puts the Union bars at the leading edge in safety and security policy and practice in the licensed trade.”
Best Cocktail Production Award
Our Institute Team also entered the Best Cocktail Production Award and beat off fierce competition from 20 other universities to be named the winners! The award celebrates a student bar going above and beyond with their cocktail offering. Judged on our cocktails' quality, value, popularity and production we were also particularly proud as the only London university to be shortlisted.
A big thank you
To complete our Oscars moment, we’d just like to thank all those involved for their hard work in helping us to achieve these awards one last time. In addition to all our wonderful student staff crew behind the bars, we’ll also give a special shout out to James Bingham, Pauline Mechan, Chris Meades, Tom Ryan from the Bars team as well as Rohan Perera and Faris Suleiman from the Students’ Union Health and Facilities team
