Academic Reps do one of the most important jobs in the Union - they make sure you have a voice in your education.
Each month, we’re featuring your reps and the work they’re doing to make UCL better. If you have an idea about how to improve your course, your department or UCL you can contact your own Academic Rep using our Find Your Rep page.
January's Academic Rep of the Month: Lynn Karam!
Lynn has shown extraordinary commitment to improving teaching and learning on her course by always prioritising her peers. See what Lynn has achieved so far:
- Communicated feedback on the difficulty of a Math exam to make the level more appropriate for the next exam sessions
- Improved the quality of Math workshop by passing on student concerns to teaching staff
- Suggested changes to the timetable to increase attendance
- Proposed self-allocation of groups for coursework
In her work, Lynn has made use of the Rep structures by communicating with Faculty Reps and other course representatives. Efficiently gathering and processing feedback, she now regularly passes on information to staff in her department. Lynn shows great commitment to the mission of Academic Representation at UCL and sets a great example to follow!
Great job Lynn!
Here's a bit more about Lynn:
Hey everyone! My name is Lynn Karam. This is my second year as representative of the Biomedical Engineering students here at UCL!
I chose to partake in this role as it allows me to voice the opinions of my peers, communicate with lecturers, meet the department leads, and resolve issues within the class. Overall, my aim is to improve everyone’s time at university.
I enjoy socializing and meeting new people. The role of Academic Representative allowed me to get to get to know most of my cohort. Having the ability to make a positive impact in my everyday environment and helping people is what pushed me to take the roles of Transition Mentor and Student Ambassador for my department too.
A little about myself… I am Lebanese but grew up my entire life in Dubai. I did a foundation year in Madrid, before continuing my studies here at UCL. I speak 4 languages (French, English, Arabic and Spanish), I am passionate about music (singing and playing the guitar) and about football. I have been playing it for 10 years now! I also love reading, going out with friends, and the outdoors.
I look forward to maintaining my role as an Academic Rep and am dedicated to actively engage with my classmates to advocate their needs!
