All Club and Society memberships are sold centrally by the Union and under no circumstances should Presidents, Treasurers or other committee members sell memberships in person. This is a serious breach of Union regulations and will result in disciplinary action if it happens.

Membership

All returning UCL students can purchase a membership to join Clubs and Societies from the beginning of the Term One either through the website or at our Student Activities Reception, located on the 2nd floor of the Bloomsbury Theatre Building.

New students can purchase membership once Once Term begins, and can purchase membership via the same method  as above.

Even though you need to have 30 members by the end of October to avoid being considered for disaffiliation, students can purchase memberships to your Club or Society all year round.

How to buy membership

There are 2 ways to purchase membership for a club or society:

If joining through the reception, students will need their UCL e-mail address and their UCL ID card, as these details are needed for our records. Please ensure you bring the exact change.

If joining through the Union website, you will need your UCL username and password to log in.  The Union online shop accepts most Credit and Debit cards, and you won’t be charged any extra charges for using your card over the internet.

Please note:

You must have at least 30 fully paid members (UCL Students) in your Club or Society by the end of October.  Any club with less than 30 will be considered for disaffiliation by the Students' Union UCL Activities Network Executive.

No membership cards will be issued, but the members details go onto a database from which Presidents and Treasurers can find out who has purchased a membership to their Club or Society. Details of how to get access to these membership lists can be found on our website

For sports clubs – it is against Union policy and BUCS regulations to allow someone to compete in a match who isn’t a paid member of the club, nor a UCL student.

If you have students outside of UCL wishing to join your Club or Society, please see our Visiting and Associate Membership page  for guidance. If you have any further questions about 'non-UCL' students taking part please contact [email protected] for more advice.
