International Mobility Fund
We are committed to making international opportunities more accessible to students from widening participation backgrounds and facing financial barriers. We recognise that the upfront costs of participating in international programmes can be a challenge.
The Students’ Union UCL International Mobility Fund provides financial support to help eligible students take part in extra and co-curricular international learning experiences outside of their degree.
This is a grant (paid in advance) to support costs such as travel, accommodation, and programme fees.
Who Can Apply, and What for:
- Open to non-finalist undergraduate and postgraduate taught (Master’s) students
- You can apply for up to £1,000
The program must be:
- International
- At least 3 days
- Extracurricular or co-curricular
- We can only support opportunities that are in FCDO green-lit countries

Creative and Performing Arts
- Short courses at drama or acting schools
- Film making or screenwriting workshops
- Music production or sound engineering courses
- Dance intensives or choreography programmes
- Visual arts residencies or studio-based courses
Language and Cultural Immersion
- Intensive language schools
- Cultural exchange programmes
- Summer schools focused on regional history or culture
- Language immersion programmes involving staying with a host family abroad
Extracurricular Professional Development
- International conferences or summits
- Short independent summer schools (not credit-bearing)
- Policy, leadership, or entrepreneurship programmes
- Research or innovation bootcamps (outside of your degree subject)
Community and Social Impact
- Structured volunteering programmes with NGOs
- Community-led development or sustainability projects
- Global health or education programmes
Skills-Based and Technical Learning
- Coding or tech bootcamps
- Design, UX, or digital media courses
- Business, marketing, or start-up accelerators
- Environmental or sustainability training programmes
Personal Development
- Leadership or youth development programmes
- International workshops focused on confidence, public speaking, or negotiation
This funding is intended to support students experiencing financial hardship. Applicants must therefore show evidence of receiving at least one of the following:
- UCL Undergraduate Bursary
- UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship
- Estranged Student Bursary
- Care Leaver Bursary
- UCL Masters Bursary
- UCL Global Masters Scholarship
- UCL Humanitarian Scholarship
- Other (with evidence .e.g. UG or PGT UCL scholarships awarded on financial need)
What the Fund Can Cover:
- Economy flights or international train travel
- Accommodation (up to 3 star standard or equivalent)
- Programme or course fees
- Visas
- Vaccinations
What the Fund Cannot Cover:
- Food, general living costs, local transport costs, or spending money
- Internships or work experience (paid or unpaid)
- Costs related to degree requirements or credit-bearing study abroad
- Luxury or non-essential travel upgrades (e.g. premium flights and accommodation)
- Free virtual programmes are not eligible
Students' Union Values
Your application must clearly link to at least one of the Students' Union Values. More information found on the application.
Legacy Requirements
If successful, you will be required to complete a legacy project to share your experience and support other students. This could include:
- Digital storytelling: Instagram takeover, online Q&A, vlog, or short-form content documenting your experience and key reflections
- Peer sharing sessions: Running a workshop, talk, or informal session for students about your programme and how to access similar opportunities
- Public speaking: Presenting at a panel, conference, stall, or student event about your experience and learning
- Mentoring: Supporting other students through 1:1 or group mentoring linked to international opportunities or widening participation pathways
- Student-led events: Organising or contributing to an event that shares insights from your experience with a wider student audience e.g. International Festival
This funding is conditional on completion of the legacy activity.
Application Form

- Upload evidence of your planned programme (e.g. offer, website link, organisation’s contact details, screenshot of email confirmation of programme)
- If successful, you will receive the grant
- After receiving the grant, you must submit proof of your highest-cost items (e.g. flights, accommodation, programme fees) within two weeks. We may request additional evidence of spending if required.
Deadline
Applications close Monday 8th June 2026 at 10am
Funding is limited. Applications are assessed on rolling basis and may close early if funds are fully allocated.
