Can I advertise freelance positions on the website?

Unfortunately we are unable to advertise vacancies where the student will be self-employed, as all external JobShop jobs must be under a contract of employment. This can be on an ‘as and when’ casual basis, or with fixed contracted hours.

How long will it take for my advert to be posted on the website?

Will endeavour to have your advert up on the website within 48 hours of receiving it However, please note that if there is any information missing or a query with the advert then this will take longer.

Can I get a receipt for my advert?

Yes, you can get a receipt for your advert on the website - just follow the instructions below :

  1. Log in.
  2. Go to ‘My profile’ in the top right
  3. Click the ‘Orders’ button
  4. Click the order number of your order
  5. Print from there       

Does an advert have to contain a rate of pay?

Yes, an advert must contain a rate of pay and it must meet the National Minimum Wage.. For further information on the National Minimum Wage please check out this website:

Would it be possible to advertise commission only pay?

No we only advertise positions that have a guaranteed hourly rate that at least meets the National Minimum Wage

What happens if you feel that the information I provide is misleading?

If at any point Students’ Union UCL feels that the information received is misleading, extravagant, or fictitious, we reserve the right to refuse to advertise; it is our job to protect the interests of our students.

Can I advertise overseas positions?

Yes, but only if students are contracted and paid in the UK.

Can I advertise positions for students in my own home?

We can only advertise these positions where they are being facilitated through a registered company who will undertake the necessary checks for this type of work.

Do we have to be specific in the job advert?

If an advert is too vague, we may decline your request, as we have a duty of care to know the basics of the role we are advertising to our students.

Can I advertise full-time positions?

Yes you can advertise full-time positions if they are seasonal. For all other full-time roles please contact UCL Careers

Can I advertise graduate and internship programmes?

No, but you can advertise these with our UCL Careers service: UCL Careers

How much should I pay students for work?

JobShop will only advertise jobs that pay at least the National Minimum Wage.

Can we ask applicants to complete an unpaid trial session?

No, the JobShop will only advertise positions that are paid including ANY trial or training periods.
