Election post

Elected
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As a queer person in India, I know just how important, and difficult, finding a community is. If elected, I want to create spaces for LGB+ women to feel supported by finding people who share similar experiences-

  • organise social events (eg: movie, PPT and games nights, pizza parties, gallery crawls, debate evenings)
  • create grievance redressal mechanisms through anonymous forms and offline forums
  • collaborate with other societies to improve visibility
  • would always love to be approached with any problems or suggestions!
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I’m skilled at communication and planning- I was part of the student council in high school for four years and was elected its President. I volunteered as the South Asian representative last year to address the unique concerns faced by students and brainstorm solutions. I know how to effectively campaign for student interests and have experience listening to problems, creating policy and organising events. I’ve volunteered to raise awareness for LGB+ rights in India and hope to use these experiences to make university a more equitable and safe space for all students.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

My past experiences as a student representative have made me skilled at addressing student concerns, planning events and working in a team. But most of all, I know firsthand how empowering finding a community of people who truly understand the problems you face can be. I want to solve the twin problems of accessibility and inclusivity by improving visibility and ensuring LGB+ women know that they have a place to make their voices heard. I’m genuinely eager to connect with new students and will work tirelessly to ensure that university is a positive experience for everyone.
