I would love to continue being part of the UCLTA and I feel that I would be able to create a positive impact as the Welfare Officer!

I believe it is important to build a welcoming atmosphere that is open to everyone who wants to learn more about Telugu culture. As the welfare officer, I would work to make Telugu society a diverse and inclusive environment. As well as being a friendly face for anyone to share their views and concerns to, I would also develop an ongoing feedback form for those who prefer to stay anonymous - to reduce any barriers in giving feedback. This is something I found to be effective as an operations prefect during sixth form where I worked in a team to organise whole school events. I also founded and led a Tamil society at sixth form and this experience gave me the opportunity to develop my leadership and team working qualities. Active listening, resolving conflict and ensuring inclusion and fairness formed an integral part of my role as the elected school representative and I feel that these are key qualities in a welfare officer.

I am really keen to organise wellbeing themed socials, such as cultural picnics (potlucks) and chill, chat & colour sessions using traditional artwork. In terms of initiatives, I think it would be great to host some fundraising events, raising money for charities such as TAL (Telugu Association London) through film screenings, dance workshops, balls or curry nights!

Thank you for this opportunity :)
