Hi, I’m Ollie and I’d like to be your clinical skills coordinator this year. I believe I am right for this role because of the following experience I have had in the society:

  • Cardiothoracic surgery chair - coordinating events on complex cardiac surgery, robotic thoracic surgery, heart and lung transplant, alongside regular cases of the week.

  • Conference facilitator of iNUGSC 2024 - working with the committee to host 24 leading surgeons for a series of talks, workshops, and panel discussions, delivered to 130 delegates.  Highlights of the workshops included surgical flap reconstruction, advanced suturing, and surgical applications of 3D printing.

  • Organising committee for the winning Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) proposal to run the SurgSoc advanced surgical skills simulation day at the Royal Free, focussing on laparoscopic surgery training for medical students.

If elected, I will:

  • Build on our existing relationship with the surgical skills training centre at the Royal Free to increase events and opportunities for society members to practice their surgical skills.

  • Work with specialty chairs to organise specific surgical skills workshops for specialties of interest.

  • Utilise previous contacts to run workshops of a greater scale to ensure that all of our members can access surgical skills teaching.

Thank you for reading, and if elected, I look forward to leading an exciting year for our surgical skills workshops.
