Hongzhou Zhu
Hi everyone! I am Hongzhou, and I hope to be your treasurer for next year! As a treasurer, I would avoid any events with extra payment. To increase funding for our society, I aim to explore different sources of funding, such as those offered by the UCL (Grant Fund, Welfare Fund, and Friend’s Trust) and those outside of UCL (alumni, Award for All, and sponsorship).
I am very organized and innovative, thanks to two of the clubs I ran in high school. I was the president and treasurer for both of them, so I am very experienced in managing money issues.
STS is unique in its broadness (History, philosophy, sociology, policy, and communication) and focus (science and technology). I understand many of us have different interests and are still wondering what to do after graduation. Therefore, I would suggest a few ideas:
o Socials with other UCL societies
o Inviting speakers from both inside and outside the STS department to talk about academics and careers!
o Organizing more weekly events! (movie night, hiking, snowboarding, or simply anything fun!)
o Study groups for students in different years to improve together!
I have a lot to contribute to our community. I understand we are yet a relatively small society, but I promise to do whatever I can to cooperate with the other members of the committee, our fellow members and the STS department to create achievements, and I shall start from the basics of managing and raising funds well.
