Kay Lynn Er

Hi, I’m Kay Lynn, a writer, director, and (occasional) stage manager. I’m the first to admit I’ve only gotten this far through continued training (I hope my school drama club counts), but at the same time, most of what I know I figured out through lots of confusion and many mistakes. Though I’ve learnt lots from all the productions I’ve been part of this year, there have absolutely been times I was standing in a rehearsal room completely lost. So, I’d love to continue the work of this year’s committee and increase members’ confidence in themselves, facilitate the exchange of skills, and make the society an even more supportive environment for us all to grow.

A few ideas:

1. Form to submit workshop ideas: Have a hidden talent? I’d like to give every member an easy way to propose workshops they’d like to run so we get more workshops up on their feet and more people learning from each other.
2. New Work workshopping: As a writer-director, I know how crucial it is for theatremakers to workshop their work with actors. There have been many times I’ve run something in rehearsal only to realise it doesn’t work or the script must be edited further. It’s a shame if this opportunity is only afforded to those who get through the bid process. Workshops train actors, writers, and directors, and I’d like to establish a regular space for them with the New Writing Officer.
