Passion for Sports Medicine
My journey in sports medicine began with a deep-rooted passion for sport itself. I have always been interested in sport from a young age, playing a wide range myself, including netball, tennis, athletics, rounders and cricket. Tennis was my sport I progressed the furtherest with; playing at an international level. I sparked an interest in Sports Medicine during my iBSc in sports medicine where i grew an understanding how physical activity impacts health. This interest led me to actively participate in a groundbreaking research project at the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health (ISEH), focusing on female footballers, and the impact of the menstrual cycle on reaction times. Leading on from my initial reserach, I collaborated with esteemed researchers, aiming to identify neurocognitive determinants of injury risk and assess the impact of heading the ball on brain health in female athletes. This experience not only honed my research skills but also deepened my commitment to advancing sports medicine.
Vision for the Society
I would love to represent SEM at UCL as I hold a strong passion for the speciality and it would be an honour to represent something I not only have a strong academic interest in but also a personal interest for. I envision our society as a vibrant hub where students can explore the multifaceted world of sports medicine and learn more about this new upcoming specialities.
