Oliwia Wasiewicz
Kind enough to listen. Strong enough to act.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I want mature students to feel that their circumstances are understood, not simply accommodated. University can look very different when balancing studies with work, finances, children, caring responsibilities and a life that doesn’t pause when you walk onto campus. I want those realities to be heard and represented. I also want to challenge things when they could be better, rather than accepting “this is how it works”. Personally, I hope to grow through the role while doing what has always mattered to me: helping people and making a real difference.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

What is the point of listening if you are not prepared to speak up afterwards? People naturally trust me with their problems because I listen without judgement and genuinely try to understand them. But I am also confident enough to stand in front of a room, raise an uncomfortable issue or be the person with a different view. I don’t need to be the loudest voice in the room, but I am not afraid to use mine. I bring empathy without weakness, confidence without arrogance, and determination to follow things through.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I know there is no such thing as a “typical student”. I wasn’t born in the UK, I left home young and my route into higher education was far from straightforward. During years at university, I became a mum of two, while continuing my studies and managing life outside university. These experiences have given me a different perspective and taught me how different people’s circumstances can be. I listen without judgement, and I don’t need to agree with someone to make sure their voice is heard. If something matters to you, I’ll listen. And if it needs a voice, I’ll use mine.
