Candidates

Haoran Liu (he/him)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
  1. Experience: In junior secondary, I was Head of Discipline and deputy class monitor, liaising between students and teachers. In senior secondary, I was a course representative, leading morning reading daily.
  2. Skills: MA Film Studies student with practical editing and copywriting skills. Production Officer in the students’ union, producing videos and posters. Led a community drama project, coordinating volunteers, setting its direction and documenting the work.
  3. Qualities: Dependable, approachable, clear communicator, strongly responsible; able to represent the student body effectively.
Where's the film link? (Legally.) ^0^ I will keep asking!
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Building on these, if elected I will:

  1. Communication: relay faculty policies and last-minute changes promptly and accurately, so students miss nothing important.
  2. Representation: listen to diverse student views and pass constructive feedback to the faculty impartially, regardless of personal relationships.
  3. Community: work with staff and classmates to propose practical ideas and support more arts and humanities projects, making our programme more cohesive and better known this academic year.

I aim to be a reliable bridge between students and staff and turn these aims into concrete outcomes.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

As a one-year master's cohort, we have little time to get to know each other. I am sociable and can quickly build relationships across the group, enabling me to listen to a wider range of student views more effectively.

I am polite and dependable. I will communicate proactively with academic staff and Faculty leadership to clarify my duties and ensure tasks are carried out promptly.

I am friendly and approachable. I can build good working relationships with both students and staff. This would allow me to act as a reliable bridge between students and the Faculty, which is central to this role.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I would bring strong communication, listening and analytical skills, developed through my English Literature degree and my work as a Humanities Student Ambassador. As an MA English student, I understand how important clear information, academic support and postgraduate community are. I care about financial inclusion, accessible communication and careers support for Arts and Humanities PGT students, and would listen carefully, gather feedback, raise concerns constructively and keep students informed.

Clearer, kinder, more connected.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected, I hope to help make Arts and Humanities postgraduate study feel clearer, more inclusive and better supported. I would focus on raising student concerns around funding pressures, confusing admin or digital systems, accessible communication, and careers support beyond traditional humanities routes. I want to help students feel informed rather than overwhelmed, and to make sure PGT voices are listened to, represented and fed back clearly.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Students should vote for me because I care about making postgraduate study feel clearer, more inclusive and less overwhelming. I would bring experience as a Humanities Student Ambassador, strong communication skills, and a genuine interest in listening to students and raising concerns constructively. I want to represent Arts and Humanities PGT students across funding, accessible communication, digital systems and careers support, while keeping students updated on what is being raised.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I undertook my undergraduate degree at UCL in this very faculty and actively participated in a wide array of activities, so I know the ins and outs of all kinds of opportunities and ways they might be improved for postgrads! I was on the committee for several societies as an undergraduate here, including as president of Philosophy Society for two years and president of Science Fiction and Fantasy Society for one year. I've also worked outside of my degree, and I know what it can take as a postgraduate to keep many aspects of life balanced, and I am dedicated to making sure you are supported!

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Some of my main goals as your representative are:

  • Increase career preparation for postgraduate taught students, especially for the Arts and Humanities departments! There is so much you can do in both further postgraduate education and the workforce, and I think this is often overlooked for students with our background
  • Ensure postgraduate international students are represented alongside to home students, as an international student myself
  • Create more opportunities for postgraduates within departmental societies
  • Increase sustainability education
  • Overall, foster a strong, interconnected PGT community
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I loved UCL so much I'm back for my master's! I have years of experience working with our Student Union and societies. I was a two-year president of Philosophy Society during my undergraduate degree here, so I know what it takes to liaise with departments, the university, the SU, and students, and I will make sure our needs and beliefs are represented fairly as the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. I'm active in a variety of societies and networks, and I am passionate about making sure your voice is heard! If I am elected, please feel free to treat my (digital) door as always open!
