Going into my 2nd year, I know that navigating 1st year can be stressful, and doing so with a disability can present further challenges and barriers. I hope to be an open and trusted point of contact for all members of the network, supporting fellow students through the twists and turns of university.
I am a confident advocate and I am unafraid to speak up for others and present new ideas to help improve accessibility and reduce the barriers that disabled students may face.
I would support the network events to ensure they run as smoothly as possible and create a welcoming environment for all.
I frequently critique places where accessibility requirements are not met, pushing back against ableism and speaking out wherever necessary.
I will always listen to the experiences of others, and work to resolve any situation that may be making university life harder.
I am also always willing to support my peers emotionally, and I have extensive knowledge of the support services available through UCL, so will aways be available to help guide others to the next line of support.
Being supportive, understanding, and listening to others are three very important traits to me. Absolutely no problem is 'too small', and I hope to be as approachable and open as possible, providing a safe space for discussion, support, and improvement.
I will communicate thoroughly with other network reps to help resolve issues and support you through your time at UCL.
Whatever your situation, I want to make it clear that there is support available and a community in which everyone can be welcomed and understood.
Thank you for considering me for DSN Welfare Officer!
