I want commuting students to have a fuller university experience without every activity requiring another journey. I would begin by gathering feedback on travel costs, gaps between classes and event timings. With the network, I would run a commuter-friendly campus campaign encouraging earlier event notices, daytime activities and clearer information about places to study, rest and eat between commitments.
Through UCL society events, student representation and student ambassador work, I have learnt that timing and communication can determine who gets to participate. I also helped build a community of over 50 people at WUZO and have experience creating engaging student-facing content. I would use these skills to gather feedback, reach students who cannot stay late on campus and organise a campaign around practical priorities.
You should not have to choose between catching your train and feeling part of UCL. I would focus on practical changes within the network's reach, while taking wider concerns to the relevant representatives. I will listen to different commuting experiences rather than assume everyone faces the same barriers. My promise is clear priorities, accessible ways to contribute and honest updates on what we can achieve.
