Hey! My Name is Elia-Marie Voeffray and I would love to take on this role :)

I bring ideas to the table that I think would be useful for the community. I am a person who loves to socialise, connect and share, and I hope to shape the union in a way where we can be more intra- and inter-connected in the SU, UCL and other universities.

As a Population Health student, I would also love to have this opportunity to integrate together my interest for women’s health within the SU and organise more workshops aimed at health and wellbeing.

Alecia Tsai (she/ her/ hers)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to make women's network more inviting to students with different interests and goals by introducing a variety of activities:

  1. Thematic book clubs (i.e. women in history, fiction by women authors, feminist thought, self-care),  where participants will be encouraged to share their perspectives in a welcoming space.
  2. Career talks with women in various industries to provide practical advice and guidance.
  3. Workshops on topics such as women's health and well-being.
  4. Newsletters to feature and celebrate members' projects, research, or initiatives.
  5. And regular social activities
Nisa Altun (she/her)
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

With this role, I would hope to achieve better representation of women by encouraging students to attend events that:

  • Raise awareness about intersectionality with panel talks
  • Involve film screenings or reading books, and think of ways to “solve it”, such as “women in film”, “women in music”, “women in finance”, “women in history”…
  • Collaborate with charities that work to help women who are refugees, homeless, victims of domestic violence
  • Celebrate cultural differences to learn more about women all round the world
  • Encourage challenging barriers in the workplace with workshops and networking events
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I am interested in helping people raise their voices, especially those who are unrepresented in society. I have been able to do that by getting elected as the Young Speaker of my borough, which equipped me with several skills that I believe are crucial for this role. I was invited to scrutiny meetings at the council to discuss how we could solve discrimination against women from ethnic minority backgrounds, especially within the institution of education. Eventually, I was able to encourage schools in my borough to hold assemblies about women's rights to teach them to stand up for themselves

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I am a reliable candidate because I have skills applicable for this role. For example, my ability to listen to feedback, collaborate with a team, being organised and having creative ideas that I cannot wait to implement. I have a genuine interest in building a community where women feel safe and freely express themselves. If I get elected, I am going to make sure that events will be both academic and social, so that knowledge is spread in a fun and creative way. I am also going to hold events accessible for women from every background in order to learn from each other's experiences!!
