What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

We are both experienced trans advocates with a passion for community building and organising events.

Amanda is on the committee of a large LGBT+ student organisation in Hong Kong. She has also helped plan a local Pride event and currently works for a mental health organisation, giving her an insight into mental health support for trans youth.

Rory works as a Youth Advisor for a professional theatre company and established a 100% trans amateur theatre company. With experience in financial management and event planning, they have produced and directed shows with a budget of over £20k.

 

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected, we will support every trans student at UCL and raise awareness of trans issues in a variety of ways, such as:

  • Promote the Gender Expression Fund
  • Host fortnightly social events, including sober activities 
  • Provide pronoun pins
  • Set up a ‘Trans Family’ scheme, pairing new and returning students
  • Encourage staff to share their pronouns in teaching and emails
  • Improve signs for gender neutral bathrooms
  • Invite trans speakers for talks and workshops
  • Collaborate with LGBTQ+ networks across Uni of London colleges 
  • Maintain an active social media presence
  • Attend all UCL SU and NUS meetings

Our skills, experience, and passion make both of us eager to support UCL’s growing trans community. We will prioritise students by ensuring their voices are heard across UCL and providing a safe space for every trans student to seek advice and friendship. 

A job share between a postgraduate and an undergraduate allows us to represent more of the student body. As a transmasc and transfem team, we can better provide a safe space for all trans students.

Speaking several languages enables us to better support international trans students, discussing trans issues in their native language.
