Election post

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Hi, I’m Jen! I’m the current President of the Ultimate Frisbee Club and previously its volunteering sec. I also played squash at junior college and regularly go to the gym. As a Sports Rep, I hope to leverage these experiences playing both individual and team sports to inform my priorities for the year. I understand first-hand the issues and pain points of sports clubs at UCL, especially the challenges encountered by committees. Lastly, I’m ambitious and constantly pushing for change — whether that be streamlining admin processes, rolling out new initiatives or working on club development.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
  • Volunteering & outreach: Last year, the Ultimate Frisbee Club raised £597 for Alzheimers’ Research UK in a charity tournament, allowing us to integrate outreach with our sport. Working with the Sports Officer, I seek to champion volunteering initiatives and get more clubs involved with their community.
  • Representation: Diversity is essential to sport, and TeamUCL has many resources and campaigns that I’d like to help connect with our clubs. I hope to help the various sports clubs at UCL to widen their membership base and engage underrepresented groups, e.g. BAME students, women in mixed sports.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

At the end of the day, the duties of a Sports Rep are undertaken on an entirely voluntary basis. As such, I’m standing for election because of my passion for sport and belief that there are still many outstanding issues the Student Union can work together with sports clubs on. I know how it’s like to be both a player and committee member in a sports club at UCL (the good and bad!). Thus, I’m committed to listening to you and actively representing your views to the Activities Zone, especially on matters like access, representation and sports-related volunteering which are all close to my heart.
