Drawing on Doreen Massey's theory of geography, I bring a critical perspective to the Faculty Representative position. My understanding of space as relational and shaped by social forces mirrors my approach to student representation. Through mentoring and advocacy work in a student-led research group, I advocated for a more inclusive, globally aware curriculum that reflected diverse and interconnected spaces. I advocated for including broader perspectives in our curricula to ensure that our faculty responds to students' changing needs by creating an equitable and dynamic environment.
If elected, I plan to amplify student voices and advocate for a more inclusive curriculum, inspired by David Harvey's concept of space as socially produced. By promoting dialogue and transparency, I want to help create an environment where students feel their academic and social experiences actively contribute to shaping faculty policies. In addition, as I recognize space as dynamic and relational, I hope to improve student-faculty communication by ensuring feedback drives positive change. My goal is to create a collaborative environment in which student feedback actively influences policies.
My goal is to create a collaborative environment in which student feedback actively influences faculty policies.
Education is shaped by the spaces we inhabit and the interactions we have, and I believe our faculty should mirror this richness. I will work to integrate global perspectives into our courses and enhance communication between students and faculty. I will ensure feedback drives positive change. Together, we can create a dynamic educational environment that values every student’s experience. Vote for me, and let’s build an inclusive future together!
I am a very organised person with strong skills in communicating with people and finding solutions to problems. I consider myself a very pragmatic and determined person and I believe it is the main reason why I could be a good fit for this role: when I face any problem I like to evaluate all the possible solutions and I am not happy until I find the best one. I am therefore very open to listening to student's troubles and find the best alternatives. My communication skills also allow me to be a good teammate, as I love to work in a group and I think this would make me highly engaged with all the other reps.
My aspiration for the future include the diplomatic world or the political life. Even if I am still a bit confused on which one of the two I wanna choose, I know that a leadership position in a big organisation like UCL will be a great start for both. I believe I will not only develop skills in leadership that you do not find in normal internships, but I will also perhaps clarify what I wanna do in my future. Personal experience aside, I hope to be a very active faculty rep and actually make a change/help when I am needed. I really hope students would be able to rely on me and know that I am a shoulder to lean on.
I believe one big advantage I could bring as a faculty rep is that I am a very active listener. I not only say this as a personal skill, but also as I have attended courses on active listening and I have studied and practiced the best techniques for this practice. The reason why I believe this is important, is that, when investing a leadership position, people rely on you to listen to them! People often just wanna be heard and I am sure that I can deliver that well :)
I have previously had experience as a house captain and member of the student council in high school and am experienced in both receiving feedback from students about their perspectives and interests concerning their learning, but also discussing and negotiating with teachers on the best solution to improve everyone’s learning.
I have previously done mediation and conflict resolution between students and have been a regular advocate for student influence and representation over school decisions like the decision to allow student-organised clubs in my high school.
I hope to be able to receive and best implement the feedback of students on the course and their learning. I plan to review the current lines of communication available to students for feedback throughout their course and streamline them to ensure that relevant and beneficial changes, which could possibly be implemented quickly and without much effort, could be responded to with efficiency and convenience.
I also wish to push for an expansion of modules and a better module suggestion system to best reflect student interests, the sophistication of the faculty’s education and degree relevance.
As a newer student who has had experience in student government for international schools, I believe I have a solid foundation of experience for student representation at a diverse school like UCL. I believe my skills to observe and improve the learning experience of fellow students can be developed well within the amount of time I have for improvement as opposed to joining in later years.
The disorienting start of UCL that feels so universal can be reduced and student experience can be better. Their voices and perspectives just need to be heard by someone who is here for them in the long run.
