Last year I was a Course Representative for Earth Science and I worked diligently with the leadership team to optimise students’ experience at university. I represented my course effectively and made an effort to talk with students and staff to achieve a positive relationship. Moreover, I was Head Girl in sixth form, proving my ardent commitment to improving student life. My public speaking skills allow me to effectively communicate whilst my organisation skills enable me to accomplish large successes. My experience as a student representative provides optimal familiarity with this role.
I hope to make student life as fun as possible, by eliminating unnecessary anxiety and promoting alumni engagement opportunities. I believe it’s highly important for us to be excited about our studies, even though it can be strenuous. If I were elected I would devote myself to reducing the stresses of my peers, last year as course representative I was presented with a widespread stressor- I raised the problem in the next SSCC meeting and had the problem resolved immediately. In addition, I would encourage correspondence between alumni and students as this would relieve career anxiety.
I am a dedicated team player. I have everyone’s best interest in mind and I will strive to create an entertaining and spirited year for us all! I’ve had specific and thorough experience as a student representative, meaning I am greatly comfortable in the position. Not only will I communicate comprehensively with peers, but I will also appreciatively correspond with staff- to promote a successful, supportive and strong cohort. I can affirm I am entirely suited to this placement and will bring an eager combination of experience, skills and enthusiasm to the Student Leadership Team.
Was part of governmental volunteer group in Shanghai so had experience in social service
Was part of overseas student committee in high school in the UK, experienced of helping overseas students adapt to the new environment.
Mandarin is my native language and English could be also spoken fluently. Also learnt by myself Cantonese and Japanese so hoping to make better conversations with students from overseas who might be nervous on chatting using English.
Also I’m interested and learnt a bit of photography so I could help with group photos for rep meetups!
Optimise learning experience for students in our faculty since science subjects are tiring to learn by solving issues such as unreliable check in system and provide a bridge of advice and complaints from the students, to the student union where someone would be able to help.
Gain myself some experience in student union works to help others and gain some work experience.
Meet new friends.
Improve my skills on networking, conferences and maybe photographing.
I have been part of overseas student committees so I have quite a lot experience in helping fellow students.
I can speak multiple languages so we may chat in your native language if English is not your first language.
I can help with most of the problems faced from adapting to UK life since I have experienced the same.
I have experience dealing with technical problems faced in using UCL systems and I can help seeking a solution.
In this role, I will bring strong communication and leadership skills that I have developed through my experience in various positions, such as Public Relations for UCL Thai Society and my work as a Data Analyst in TSIN, a UK based organisation. These experiences have equipped me with the ability to effectively represent the interests of others, listen to feedback, and engage with diverse groups of people. I am highly organised and able to manage multiple responsibilities, which will allow me to balance the demands of this role alongside my academic commitments.
If elected as the UCL Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Science undergraduate representative, my primary goal will be to strengthen the communication between students and faculty. I aim to ensure that student concerns and suggestions are heard, understood, and addressed by working closely with both students and staff. I plan to create anonymous surveys to gather a wide range of feedback on issues such as curriculum development, workload management, and access to resources. By doing so, I will advocate for changes that enhance the student experience. Additionally, I hope to improve the sense of community within the faculty by initiating events that bring students together, fostering collaboration and support across different disciplines.
Students should vote for me because I am approachable, actively engaged in both class and student societies, and dedicated to making a positive difference. My involvement in class discussions and leadership roles has made me a familiar face and someone who is always open to listening to my peers. I understand the importance of being accessible and relatable, and I am committed to ensuring that students feel comfortable sharing their concerns. With strong transferable skills and a proactive mindset, I will work diligently to advocate for meaningful changes that enhance the student experience within the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Science.
I:
- am a persistent person with a unrelenting drive to make things as good as possible; i.e. if I see something that can improve I will not stop until it's done.
- have experience establishing effective communication between different positions in an organization, as I was the Head of Baking in a culinary business I co-founded for over 3 years.
- tutored Math and Add Math IGCSE students for 2 years and can apply that experience to devise the best solution for both, students and lecturers.
- have also been told that I am a really good listener, so pop by whenever if you want to talk about anything!
- I aspire to ensure a complete and honest representation of students' best interests.
- Preemptively seek out suggestions, feedback, and opinions on how things are, whether in classes or outside and implement them.
- Create an anonymous pipeline for students to be able to report both, trivial and non-trivial issues, to their academic rep (me) that they would rather not report to the department or university for whatever reason.
- Just make sure that everyone is having a happy and fulfilling student life to the best of my abilities.
I am an extremely passionate physics student with a penchant for forging connections. Throughout my life, I have always prized my ability to make friends wherever I go as well as making people feel heard. And that's exactly what I plan to continue in this role; through my term as an academic rep, I will aspire to always be available to my fellow peers, provide a patient ear to any grievances they might have, represent all students' communal interest and be a reliable liaison to and from the department. But you shouldn't vote for what I will be, vote for who I am; a person of the people.
