Virginia Belvedere
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I'm well-suited for this role as a representative, building on my previous experience as the year rep for my cohort in the last year. I've proven myself to be approachable and committed to seeing concerns through to their resolution. My ability to effectively address student issues has been honed through close collaboration with both the Life Science Society committee and senior staff over the past two years. I plan to lead by their example and maintain positive working relationships with faculty members, while continuing to actively advance the interests and/or concerns of the student body.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
  • Encourage a heightned sense of community within the Life Science faculty by nurturing connections among students from various degree programs and divisions.
  • Enhance the well-being support available to students across all academic years, ensuring that everyone within the faculty experiences a sense of inclusion and respect.
  • Promote transparency in our interactions with senior staff to facilitate open and honest communication.
  • Serve as an accessible and supportive mentor for all members of the faculty, offering guidance and assistance when needed.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I believe I'm the right choice for the faculty representative role due to the unique set of skills and experiences I have acquired over my first two years at UCL. From my previous roles, I've consistently demonstrated my reliability and active engagement, and am dedicated to prioritising the well-being of students alongside academic pursuits. By voting for me, you are choosing a representative who will actively work towards enhancing the student experience, and ensure that every student's voice is heard and valued within our faculty.

Sun Yu (She/her)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I offer years of experience mediating student-staff communication and a strong drive to make changes for the better. Before university, I held numerous posts as class representative, where I voiced my peers’ opinions on topics ranging from teaching styles to school facilities. I also founded and led a Biology club in school with a vision to make biology accessible and enjoyable for students, and am currently part of the UCL Biology Society committee as Academic Secretary. With these experiences and my love for biology, I am sure I can enrich the learning experience for every student.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As a course representative, I aim to represent my fellow students’ needs, even if they do not resonate with mine. During my first year as a Biological Sciences student, and a month as the BioSoc committee member, I have observed that different people can have contradicting opinions about the progression of a module: even if some students may not have difficulties with the course, others may be encountering problems that needs communicating and fixing. When I become course representative, I will account for every student’s experience with Biological Sciences.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

You should vote for me because I will represent your needs, be it a change in teaching style or an increase/decrease in additional learning material, regardless of whether I need that change too or not. I will also maintain a steady stream of feedback through school emails and social media and no opinion will go unnoticed. I love biology, and I want the best learning experience for every student in our course - I am applying for this role because I want to make changes for the better.

Kerem Isik & Yuvraj Jadeja (he/him)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Kerem has previously held posts at the UCL Student Union and Academic Board as a Life Sciences Faculty Rep and other student-led bodies where he developed his skills in administrative leadership, representation, and negotiation, which are crucial in representing student voices and enacting change within the faculty.

Yuvraj has served as the Lead Departmental Rep for Neuroscience and is the current president of NeuroSoc which earned him great skills in communication, organisation and feedback collection, which are essential to making sure every problem and concern is seen, said and sorted.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Our primary goal is to create a clear and centralised channel for students to share their thoughts and concerns with the faculty, bridging the gap between academic staff and students.

With Kerem's expertise in representation and negotiation, we will use your feedback to advocate for faculty reform and take action ourselves - change happens beyond the walls of a meeting room.

With Yuvraj's experienced background in leading projects to implement positive change, we will translate your thoughts, needs, and suggestions into real-world results.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.
  • We have a proven track record of getting results
  • We have robust communication skills and relationships with both the student body and the Faculty of Life Sciences
  • We cultivated an extensive network at UCL which grants us the capacity to push things faster and implement change with much ease.
  • We are in a suitable position to negotiate solutions that work for everyone
  • We will strive to extend the boundaries of what a Faculty Rep role entails
  • Through our experience in representing UCL students, we will set a precedence for future academic reps to come
