I served as a student representative and organized various activities as the chair while pursuing my bachelor's degree. I think such a way establishes a bridge between staff and students to communicate and make progress together. Students' voice needs to be heard and their concerns can be seen. I believe that past experience can help me better and faster to adapt to the new role and challenges. I am also very easygoing and positive under different conditions.
It is a useful way to gather students' feedback and pass on the latest information to them. Because we are peers, I probably know more about what they are thinking and caring about. I also hope that my ability to communicate and solve problems can be greatly enhanced to better fulfil my responsibilities and make some changes.
I am passionate about participating in the process of building a platform to solve issues and address queries. The problem-solving skills and organizational skills gained from past experience can help me become a representative more easily. I am also easygoing and open to different cultures.
As a representative for the Faculty of the Built Environment, my top priority is to ensure every student's perspective is heard and considered. Drawing upon my deep-rooted experience in activism and community organization, I'm adept at cultivating open dialogue, fostering meaningful collaboration, and promoting genuine inclusivity. I'm dedicated to being a strong link between faculty and students, ensuring our academic paths are thoughtfully crafted with clarity and perfectly suited to the specific needs of the built environment field.
If elected as the student representative for the Faculty of the Built Environment, I aspire to foster an environment where every student feels valued and heard. I'll prioritize open dialogue between students and faculty, ensuring transparency in decision-making. An immediate goal is to advocate for access to the UCL Senate House Hub for master students, as it's currently exclusive to researchers. I'll advocate for updated curriculum content, improved academic resources, and opportunities that embrace diversity. My goal is to pave the way for a progressive and fulfilling academic experience.
Vote for me because I bring a proven track record as an activist and community organizer, which equips me with the skills of active listening, collaboration, and inclusivity. I'm committed to bridging the gap between students and faculty, ensuring every voice is heard and transparent decisions are made. My top priority is to champion your needs, from curriculum enhancements to gaining access to valuable resources like the UCL Senate House Hub. With me as your representative, expect a proactive approach to creating a better academic experience in the Faculty of the Built Environment.
I have studied at 6 different schools. This gives me many points of reference to recognize issues with teaching, management, and student culture.
Having lived in 4 countries, my understanding of adapting to new places and communities has allowed me to gain a higher sensitivity to people of different backgrounds and experiences.
Over the past two years, I have taken on various teaching positions that strengthened my ability to deliver ideas and oversee discussions.
I hope to have conversations with both students and faculties on the topic of our department.
I wish to discuss topics such as work culture, unit systems, teaching methods, etc.
Most importantly, I believe in the transparency of decision-making at the school which may be aided through documenting and sharing my conversations with both the students and the faculty.
Like most students, I've had both good and bad experiences with education. I am certain that we will find common interests and struggles.
This being my 4th year at UCL, I am familiar with the experiences of past students as well as the history of the school. I hope that I can share these stories.
In light of the recent investigation, I believe we are in a great position to create changes. I intend to derive a system that allows student voices to be smoothly passed onto the faculty, and the faculty's response and decision-making to be clearly communicated to the students.
With a long previous experience in this role, including being the president of all the Peruvian industrial engineering students during my undergraduate, I understand the importance of being the bridge between professors, the university and us, the students. My commitment is based on listening and acting, communicating our voice to the Faculty.
I will conduct surveys to receive feedback and recommendations on all issues affecting us as Bartlett students. Then, build a possible solution and transmit it to our faculty.
In coordination with the Bartlett Urban Planning Society, we will propose integration and academic events to help a comprehensive education.
I have extensive experience as a student rep that prepares me for this. I will be attentive to each of your questions, suggestions and complaints to build a better environment within our faculty.
It is submitted that I, Zoha Shakir, am a gold medalist with M.Phil. in Food and Nutrition and I have recently started MSc in Environment and Sustainable Development (ESD) at The Bartlett DPU. I would love to be the faculty of built environment PGT Rep because I believe I am a perfect fit for this role as I have 8 years of experience in leadership roles in my country as I belong to the civil service of Pakistan and I have served in five diverse areas of Pakistan. I would utilize my leadership, communication and negotiation skills to give my best to this role.
London and specifically UCL is an excellent opportunity for networking for me. Being the faculty representative offers me an avenue to frequently interact with my colleagues, help them and learn from their rich experience. Secondly, this role will give me a chance to represent the opinions of my fellows at meetings.Thirdly, I would gain an indepth insight into the British education system that would certainly help me in my profession by replicating the positive aspects of UK education system back in my home country as I am a civil servant and would be involved in policy making in my country.
I believe I am an extrovert and students can talk to me easily. I am easily approachable and I love to help other fellows. It would be an honour for me to interact with colleagues from different cultures and learn from them. I would voice the opinions and concerns of students in conferences and bring meaningful reforms in my capacity. Moreover, I have good negotiation skills and I can mediate and negotiate to bring output. For the resons mentioned above, students should vote for me.
As Faculty Representative, I will continue to challenge and collaboratively strategise to enhance implementation of inclusive course engagement; to sustainably meet cohorts’ needs so Bartlett and UCL continue to improve.
