What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I bring my belief that Arts students are key to our technologically expanding world; I bring my absolute insistence that we have a place in it. Whether this is through volunteering, teaching, politics, banking, academia, tech, or the law, I bring my belief that we deserve to experiment, to try and to fail, and to benefit from the alumni and careers support that UCL offers other departments.

I've taken on committee roles volunteering at UCL, I've stayed up working as an intern, and I've read the role description.. I'm prepared to do the work to fulfil my responsibilities as Faculty Rep.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
  1. More careers services, incl work and study abroad - who said Arts students can't get jobs?
  2. Better engagement with faculty - I'll give honest feedback about preferred lecture styles and awkward seminars on your behalf.
  3. Greater marking transparency.
  4. Better post-grad application services - we know you want a Masters.
  5. Introduce Shape UCL to our department. Already in use by the Bartlett, MechEng, and undergrad Laws, it's an online platform with a private area for students to discuss issues and a public forum for profs to directly reply and make announcements. Easier than a QR code survey.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I chose to study Arts because I love English, but also because I wanted to explore the different avenues and lifestyles open to me. I understand the difficulties of marking strikes, internship rejections, cancelled lectures, AI uncertainty, and even just the desire to figure out what we want our future to look like. I'll listen to what we need, and I want to discuss what we, as students, actually want. I have my own ideas, but as Faculty Rep, I will put in the work to enact yours.

Vicky Zhu (She/her)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Throughout my high school journey, I have been working as a peer mentor and academic mentor to provide help in all aspects of students’ school life and constantly collecting students’ advice and feedback to the school pastoral. This valuable experience can be applied to the role of Faculty Rep if I am elected. As someone who is not only a careful observer of the surroundings, but also a passionate seeker of solutions and that my job won’t end as I pass student’s voices to faculty but end when it’s resolved. I believe my experience and characteristics would work well for the role of faculty rep

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I look forward to devoting myself to creating a supportive and open environment for all students. I hope I can project students’ voices effectively to the level of faculty and raise attention to them equally. To achieve this, I will maintain a high level of anonymity to make sure every single student can express their feelings, thoughts and advice freely. I believe that we can all cooperate to shape the Arts and Humanities Faculty into a warm and chilling place with our personal views and efforts contributed in.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Being a student with 3-year experience of peer mentoring and academic mentoring at high school, it is a habit for me to observe and gather the issues around the campus and seek to resolve them. I‘ve been a super patient listener helping all-age students from KS2 to KS5 so no pressure to talk casually and freely to me. I prioritise the voice of every single one of you. As a BASc student, I take modules from different departments hence I will be able to gather feedback across the whole faculty easily. I will try my best to improve the school experience at our Faculty to you all!

Axel Massuyr (He/Him)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I am an exchange student coming from Belgium. I have been a student representative for both my department and my faculty for 2 years. Last year, I was also leading the whole student representative body of my faculty and the departments within it.

Moreover, I come from a university where the students' involvement is also important and takes different forms than at UCL. The teaching methods I know differ too.

I am also used to negociate since I have been a member of multiple student organisations and I enjoy participating to "organisations-modelling" (EG: model EU Council).

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I want to empower our student community so that we can collaborate to make UCL a better place to learn, to study, to make friends, to enjoy a good time, to be who we are, ..., to live in short.

I believe that my external viewpoint and my previous experiences could be useful to think about the challenges faced by UCL students. I want to import the good practices I learnt at my home university, & to see what is better here.

Our faculty is the faculty of humans & their ideas, we learn how humans live, organise themselves & think. Let's apply our knowledge: Let's live, Let's organize, Let's think!

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Extract of my UCL application: Despite the sociological odds, notwithstanding my popular origins, thanks to my work, my studies go without incident. I am offered to show what I am capable of, and I wish, from the depths of my being, to do so. I wish that I be allowed to give all my skills, so that they can best be used for the benefit of the community. I wish to give back to the hundredfold all that I have received. I wish to contribute tomorrow for those who will create a world that will outlive me. I wish to become the best version of myself, so that I can participate in the progress of Man.

Coco Mu
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I am excited to propose myself as the Art and Humanities Representative, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to the role. As the activities rep in my highschool, I have organized events that showcase our school's values. Notably, I have presented to audiences of up to 300 people about my art project, demonstrating my ability to engage and inspire. My background in ESPS as well as my history of studying various humanities subjects equips me with a well-rounded understanding of the field. This knowledge will help me represent the diverse interests within the community.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected, I aspire to enhance the Art and Humanities community. I'll organize engaging events, drawing from my high school experience. I aim to foster an inclusive environment by being approachable and extroverted, embracing diverse perspectives. Leveraging my academic background in European social and political studies and various humanities subjects, I'll ensure our community's interests are well-represented. My ultimate goal is to make a positive societal impact by championing your ideas and promoting the arts and humanities.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

My open-minded and extroverted nature, as an ENFP, allows me to connect with people from all walks of life. I'm eager to make friends with everyone, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment. I am genuinely enthusiastic about representing your thoughts and ideas and believe that together, we can make a significant impact on our society. I am committed to promoting the arts and humanities and ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.

Manon Ring (She/Her)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Having done debating and currently training for international MUN competitions in Europe and beyond, I have expressed myself before assemblies composed of 150+ members and simulated negotiations with students holding different opinions to reach agreements tackling global issues. Advocating for my beliefs with consideration taught me creativity and resiliency while nurturing my leadership, communication and negotiation skills, which are cardinal to bringing out the best in others. I aim to ally my debating skills and empathy to achieve meaningful contributions to our faculty and entire UCL body

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
  • Diversity and inclusion: work closely with societies, teachers, staff and students to ensure that everyone strives within our department regardless of background, especially considering the current geopolitical context
  • Interdepartmental collaboration: increase the possibility of choosing modules across our faculty to enhance educational provision
  • Career development: more faculty-focused career events (networking and speaker events, workshops), organise an Arts and Humanities career fair based on the same principles as the Law or Life and Health Sciences careers fairs happening this month
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Last year, I found myself in an unfortunate situation where concerns needed to be raised and wished this situation could have been avoided by the implementation of appropriate measures beforehand. Since then, I desire to make an impact on my community by finding durable solutions to students’ concerns and aim to nurture diversity, enhance interdepartmental collaboration and uplift professional opportunities within our faculty thanks to my diplomatic debating skills. I await to bring my passion and expertise to this role, to not only witness changes but participate in their making.
