I am Exia Gandaho a Chevening scholar 2022-2023, studying the MSc Global Healthcare Management (Finance). As a Doctor of Pharmacy who has always counselled patients at the counter, I have developed excellent communication, listening to others and serving skills. Through the various positions of responsibility, I have held, I developed strong negotiating abilities which I will devote to serve as a UCL East Student Officer. For instance, in 2021, when managing a community pharmacy, I succeeded to convince the owner to accept flexible working hours and allow staff to choose their own rest days.
Firstly, I will induce the concept of innovative weeks. One week per term, students will propose (anonymously if they wish) ideas to improve academic and social activities at UCL East. Secondly, I will create the 'My New campus forum' where students at the new campus will be allowed to send any request in the first month and negociate with UCL that the first 10 recommendations are fully satisfied. Finally, I will ensure that students have easier and more convenient access to all services and facilities on the main campus and negotiate the detachment of some key facilities to our new campus.
I strongly believe that no student can be at its best if the academic environment does not meet its needs. I know the impact it can have on studies to commute more than 40 minutes to get to class when you had planned to walk to university. I know what it feels like to have overlapping or last minute activities on the timetable. All this to say that I live the same reality as many of us and I understand the issue behind. I want to be the one who supports this new, innovative campus with innovative student activities that meet the needs of my peers. Voting for me is voting for yourself!
