Election post

Status
Elected
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
  • Events organisation: from planning academic and leadership events in high school to boat parties and fresher's events in UCL, I take the initiative to anticipate others' needs and create the best experience possible for everyone involved
  • Ensure inclusivity and accessibility in societies by drawing on past experience of working closely with UCL Student Support and Wellbeing Services in a Changemakers project to evaluate disability services in Natural Sciences
  • Problem solving: As a course rep, I've had experience raising issues, communicating them and finding solutions
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

Stepping into the salsa scene turned my life around (literally with all the double spins) and joining the society has given me something to look forward to every week. Being a newbie, I understand first hand the importance of creating a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment for members of all levels to dance in. Creating a safe space to learn and grow without judgement is key.

The same goes for learning a new skill or joining a new community in any society. I hope to make ensure all societies in UCL provide an accommodating and welcoming space for all, regardless of their background.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Societies breathe life into a day crammed with coursework and offer communities that make university life so much richer. Having worked as an Events Officer in Natural Sciences and Communications Officer now in Salsa Society has shown me the importance and impact societies have in creating welcome spaces for people to learn new skills, let loose and share their passion about a sport or art or subject with like-minded people.

Drawing from my experience in planning events and knowledge of accessibility needs and services at UCL, I am passionate about improving these spaces to include everyone.
