What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
Hi! I'm Maya, and I am a member of Live Music, Musical Theatre, and Stage Crew, but these societies are only a fraction of the ones that I have collaborated with during my time here at UCL. As a result of this, I have made connections with a number of different art societies, which I hope to use to gain a sense of how to best represent different societies as your arts rep!
I also generally enjoy spending my time doing things arts UCL related, and can often be found working on one show or another, and as a result, tend to be quite organized, about it, a quality I would apply to being arts rep.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?
One thing I aim to do as performing arts rep is work on expanding the diversity within UCL arts societies. With the exception of a few shows, the majority of stories being told and music being performed are overwhelmingly white, which is generally unrepresentative of UCL as a whole.
As a committee member of a few different arts societies (Live Music, Musical Theatre), and having worked with others on a few different productions, I would love to use my position on these committees and as arts rep to also work towards more collaboration between societies.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.
UCL arts has become one of the highlights of my time here over the past year, and I would love to do what I can in order to make that experience accurate for as many people as possible. As your arts rep, I would work to build on and deepen the sense of community that already exists to an extent within art societies and encourage more collaboration between different societies.
I also aim to work with both the union and societies towards bringing more diversity towards the performances being done by art societies.
