If I was to be elected, I would hope to contribute to the great work of the LGBT+ Students Network and help create a more inclusive and diverse environment here at UCL! I believe through the responsibilities I would take on as Media & Communications Representative, I could make a real impact in getting the message across to all UCL students that the LGBT+ Network is a safe place for anyone to express themselves freely and without judgement. I would hope that through this work, we could at the very least make sure LGBT+ UCL students feel more comfortable and at home on campus.
I previously sat on my Sixth Form's executive committee, where I also took on the role of Communications Officer. Within that role, I oversaw the Executive Committee's Instagram page and dedicated time to answering any student questions/queries. I've also had some experience with graphic design, having done a BTEC in the subject a few years ago. I know the basics of Photoshop and photo editing and believe such experience could be very useful when making graphics for the LGBT+ Network's social media pages.
Being gay and growing up in a small town in the north of England, I know what it's like to feel unwelcome and uncomfortable because of my sexuality. I also understand that even knowing there is a safe place to express yourself and be free of judgement can make all the difference in feeling proud of who you are. I would love to be apart of creating and sharing that place at UCL, and helping other students with any concerns or questions they may have. I believe I can be a successful Media & Communications Representative and get the message out to all UCL students, that they are welcome here.
