Election post

Status
Elected
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

My awareness of research students’ needs comes from my first-hand experience and continuous discussion with peers. Additionally, last year I gained much inter-departmental feedback covering the role of Engineering Sciences Faculty Rep. I want this awareness to be heard and to inspire a positive change.

During my studies, I also got familiar with a range of cultural approaches to research, understanding the main concerns affecting research students from those different backgrounds. This understanding is fundamental to representing such a multicultural research community as UCL Engineering.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

If elected, I will:

  1. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and networking among all the UCL Engineering Departments through activities such as the Research Festival (introduced the last year).
  2. Introduce a periodic survey to monitor research students’ well-being and satisfaction with their supervision.
  3. Promote the role of student Reps and the support they can offer through the #knowYourRep campaign (initiated last year).
  4. Work to improve the quality and increase the availability of research students working spaces.
  5. Support mentoring opportunities among research students.
Please summarise why students should vote for you.

If you elect me, I will put all my passion for engineering and determination to get things done most effectively at the service of UCL Engineering PGR students. Moreover, I will continuously gather thoughts and concerns to identify additional action points.

My overall goal is to make research students’ voices heard at University Committees, communicating our evolving vision of how to shape a better UCL Engineering. The skills I gained covering this role last year and serving as Postgraduate Officer for external engineering institutions in the past support this objective. Vote and reach out!
