Eleni Dimou
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

Hello, I'm Eleni, a third-year Psychology student with a great passion for all types of art. Prior to university, I studied visual arts for 2 years, where I discovered the importance of creative expression. Through years of volunteering, my passion for philanthropy allowed me to cultivate solid planning and organisational skills, which I aim to use for my role in the UCL arts community. With lots of motivation and a positive attitude, I will ensure that the arts societies are welcoming and safe for everyone, filled with inspiring workshops and events, that are fun and promote our well-being :)

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I aim to keep working on and expand:

INCLUSION & CONNECTION: Ensuring that the art societies are inclusive and accessible to everyone and form a strong and connected community, while also collaborating with other societies, to give everyone access to artistic opportunities

VARIETY: Expanding art activities, to cover everyone’s interests

FUN: Filling the year with memorable fun activities & events

WELLNESS: Including activities focused on increasing well-being and decreasing stress

CHARITY: Working closely with volunteering officers to engage the art community in charitable endeavours

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

You should vote for me because I truly want to be your voice within the arts societies. I want to work closely and have communication with each and every member and make sure I receive regular feedback to better the societies and give everyone the chance to try things that they want. I aim to turn our thoughts and ideas into action. I am driven and I believe that by working on the aims mentioned above, we can take the arts societies to another level!

PS: Follow my campaign on IG and check out my poster for some of my ideas and visions, and hopefully let's add much more to it together :)

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?
  • Raise the profile of the Arts – I want to make the artsUCL brand a household name at UCL, with power and funding behind it, much like TeamUCL is for sports.
  • I will lobby the Union to keep buildings open later and provide better access to our spaces, studios and storerooms.
  • I aim to work with the IOE to make their performance venues easier (and cheaper) for our societies to use.
  • Work both short and long term – UCL is massive and change here takes time. I will write a comprehensive Arts strategy so that today’s priorities aren’t forgotten about in 3 years.
What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As President of Stage Crew society, I work very closely with our performing arts societies and so I know first-hand what needs changing within the Arts. I work in the Activities Team, so I already have good relationships with key staff members and am very familiar with the processes behind-the-scenes. My vision is also closely aligned with that of the Activities & Engagement Officer. I will use these connections to push our priorities to the top of the Union’s agenda.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I was on the team for 8 of our Bloomsbury Theatre shows last year through Stage Crew, so if I've already had the pleasure of working with you or your society, you’ll know that I am driven, determined and highly organised: a long-winded way of saying that I get stuff done. I have the passion, knowledge and connections to hit the ground running and make sure artsUCL gets the recognition it deserves.
