Hi! My name is Amelie, and I am currently a 2nd-year student studying a BSc in Psychology with Education. Consistently attending class as part of the Yoga and Meditation Club at UCL has played an instrumental role in my last 2 years of university in engaging in a like-minded community, finding peace amid moments of stress, and improving my overall well-being :) I am running for Welfare Officer because I believe that seeking positive benefits from practicing both Yoga and Meditation relies not only on the physical wellbeing aspect, but also on cultivating a space where everyone feels visible and empowered. Through this, I aim to foster an accessible environment that promotes equal agency through open discussion and meaningful feedback among members. Ultimately, I recognise that creating this environment works in favour of motivating everyone to feel comfortable in challenging themselves to enhance their practice, whilst also feeling at ease to make mistakes and grow through them. Additionally, with my previous experience as an HR Associate for another UCL society, where I coordinated and hosted wellbeing initiatives to drive community engagement and morale, I am certain that I will be able to deliver on exciting events and partnerships that will similarly focus on opportunities to destress within a safe space. I look forward to contributing to what promises to be an exciting 2026/27 year for the society!
I am standing again for Welfare Officer of the Yoga and Meditation Club because I have really valued the opportunity to support members this year and would like to continue building on that work. As a second-year Global Humanitarian Studies student, I understand the pressures that come with balancing academics and personal wellbeing. Having already been in the role, I appreciate the responsibilities involved and the importance of maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment within the club.
I have been practising yoga since I was young, and it has always been an important part of how I manage stress and maintain balance. Over the past year, I have seen how much yoga and meditation can support others in similar ways, especially during busy academic periods. I would like to continue ensuring that sessions feel relaxed, supportive, and accessible to everyone, regardless of experience.
If re-elected, I would aim to build on what has worked well, remain approachable for any concerns, and explore small, realistic ways to further promote wellbeing within the club.
Overall, I’m standing because I genuinely care about the club and would like to continue contributing to a positive and supportive space for all members.
As a Psychology student with plans to go into clinical psychology/therapy, I am passionate about mental health and well-being! I completed a Level 2 Counselling Qualification with AIM, meaning I have specific listening skills to support people who are struggling, and used this training to support my role as a Student Wellbeing Advisor at college. This means I have experience in high-pressure environments and have developed strong interpersonal skills (such as empathy and effective communication). I have basic First Aid training, but am happy to complete higher levels of training. I also worked at a primary school and received safeguarding training for two years, and I have a DBS certificate, meaning that I am informed about matters of confidentiality and how to handle sensitive reports.
If I got this position, I would like to introduce voluntary surveys to monitor how Yoga Society helps to improve people's welfare and what we could do to improve.
