Yoga Society was the first club I joined at UCL, and it gave me so much. Before joining I had never practised yoga, but thanks to the society it has become one of the most important parts of my life. It also gave me my first real community at UCL, which is why it is so dear to me and has created some of my favourite memories at university.
I am running for Vice President because I love working across different aspects of a society and helping bring people together. Last year, as Communications Officer for the Yoga and Meditation Society (and the culprit of the slightly horrendous “Yoga Quote of the Day”), I had the opportunity to engage with many members and help bring back social events people wanted. Through this, I realised how much I enjoy creating spaces where members feel included and heard.
While on my year abroad I have loved seeing Yoga Society continue to grow (though not without serious FOMO). As Vice President, I would love to help organise more social events, special classes, and opportunities for members to connect both inside and outside of practice.
Despite California having many opportunities to practise yoga, they are unlike the unique community we have at UCL. The teachers, retreats, and students make it special, and I would love to help ensure it remains a place where people can find both connection and peace of mind.
Hi!! I’m Neyla, a first-year Biomedical Engineering student. I’m nominating myself for Vice President because I really value the Yoga Society and the positive space it creates for all of us.
I’m organised, reliable, and approachable, and I genuinely care about making sure everyone feels comfortable and included. I’d love to support the President and the committee, help things run smoothly behind the scenes, and contribute ideas that keep the society growing while staying true to its calm and welcoming vibe.
I’m someone who’s enthusiastic but also responsible, and I’d put a lot of effort into making sure the society continues to feel supportive, balanced and fun for everyone. If you’d like that kind of energy on the committee, I’d love your vote! :)
Hi! I’m Hayley (though most of you will know me as Jace), a first-year Anthropology student, and I’m running for the position of Vice President. Yoga has been such a fulfilling part of my life - in terms of practising mindfulness, building strength and gratitude for my body, and having a space to unwind and enjoy movement. Being part of the Yoga & Meditation Club has been particularly valuable because of the structure of lessons and the ability to make friends with the like-minded community.
I’ve held several leadership roles in the past, which has given me the confidence and experience to lead this big club. As the VP, I’d be supporting the President in any way, such as liaising with teachers, disseminating information to members, and general administrative tasks. Skills-wise, I’m responsible and good at planning for the big picture - which means I’ll be reliable in communication and comfortable handling long-term initiatives for the club.
One of my goals for the club would be to continue the culture of inclusivity and community. Joining the club, I hadn’t practised yoga outside of following YouTube videos and I was very touched by my teachers’ care and consideration when I struggled in classes. Similarly, having fellow yogis who’d stay back after sessions or join the Oakberry socials to chat formed a lovely community that made the club one I felt comfortable in. All in all, I want the best for YMC, and I hope to contribute to that future through the role of VP :)
