More than 80 personal pieces of poetry reflect my journey, proving that poetry isn’t just a hobby, but a defining part of who I am. I want to build a space where poetry feels open and judgement-free not just for experienced writers, but for first time writers too!

To me, poetry is both personal and communal. It allows us to express our feelings in a way of beauty and art, yet it can become something more powerful when shared with others who can interpret and experience our work in different ways.

Whilst I haven’t always been able to attend our poetry events due to conflicting schedules and timing, it’s actually made me reflect on accessibility and how we might diversify formats of our poetry sessions. This can be achieved through varying events times, implementing low-pressure drop in writing sessions, or introducing new collaborative projects.

If elected I will focus on:

  • Hosting poetry sessions at various timings to boost accessibility
  • Implement various collaborative sessions between experienced and new writers
  • Establish a welcoming and constructive feedback culture
  • Aid others in their writing journey and built their confidence

Thank you for considering my candidacy!

I’d like to leave you with a few lines that reflect what being a poet means to me:

“Pen to paper, pacing away;

Bursts of life and ideas grow on the page,

In black and white,

Of the visionary words then typed

And printed for all to read;

To love and appreciate in every degree.”
