Emily Burke (she/her)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

As a current Volunteering and Academic Representative, I aim to level up my role and bring proven leadership, hands-on volunteering experience, effective communication skills, and a deep understanding of student engagement within the Union to the Volunteering Officer role. With over three years in Girlguiding leadership, organising events, and managing finances, these transferable skills make me confident in my ability to be the link between clubs, societies, and the Volunteering Service, which is an essential part of supporting inclusive volunteering initiatives at UCL.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

As Volunteering Officer, I will foster more frequent communication between Volunteering Officers and Representatives through regular meetings, encouraging transparency, collaboration, and critical discussion.

I will continue strengthening the Volunteering Forum by increasing engagement between society officers and promoting projects across the student community.

I also aim to remain actively involved in Activities Zone meetings to ensure that volunteering priorities are represented.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

Students should vote for me because I combine volunteering and leadership with strong representation experience, demonstrating reliability.

I understand how to lead, organise, and support initiatives, drawing on my experience in academic departments and the Union. From managing finances and activities in Girlguiding to representing students academically at UCL. I am approachable, hardworking, and enthusiastic about volunteering, with experience well-suited to this position.

Shazil Kashif Sabeeh (He/him)
What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

In my previous role as the Volunteering Rep, I helped bridge the communication gap between students and the administration. I actively listened to students' concerns and ideas, ensuring that their voices were heard and considered in decision-making processes.

From origami for elders in care homes to creating Christmas gift bundles for orphans, I am so happy with the positive impact I've had. It would truly not have been possible without all your support, and I plan to continue this passion and drive as your next Volunteering Officer!

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I aim to provide immediate, high-impact digital and project-based opportunities, such as web design for a local charity. Students with busy schedules who might not have time for long-term commitments will especially be welcomed.

I intend to create a "Community Impact Panel" that will meet termly with three to four significant charity partners and a rotating group of student volunteers to ensure our volunteer work has a real impact. I hope to clearly demonstrate the career-enhancing value of volunteering, thereby ensuring the enthusiasm for the role continues long after my term ends.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

My experience as the previous Volunteering Rep has given me invaluable insights into working with UCL administration and management, equipping me to organize and conduct a variety of impactful events effectively. I am committed to utilising this knowledge to enhance social impact and civic engagement opportunities for all students, regardless of their faculty or schedules. I firmly believe that the chance to help others should be accessible to everyone, not limited by major or availability. When you vote for me, you are voting for a brighter, more inclusive future for our entire community.

What will you bring to this role (e.g. experience, skills or qualities)?

I started my volunteering in hospitals and moved into hospices. I learnt many skills while working in such an intense environment, I believe terminal care is probably the most emotionally taxing work you could do. Through this I was able to establish many qualities, which make me a more resilient person, who is eager to learn and help others, including the students who I will be representing. It was through the patients I met, that I was inspired to continue developing my skills and to make the most of my pursuits, giving me an optimistic, rational skillset which is crucial for the role.

What do you hope to achieve in the role if you are elected?

I hope to give more people the opportunity to experience volunteering roles which can really improve their outlook on life. I think volunteering allows you to access different experiences and I hope to accurately represent students ideas and innovations to improve the possibilities of volunteer work. Especially since volunteering is extremely rewarding for not just yourself and your own skills but for the people you help. I hope to draw as much attention as possible into the unique volunteering roles by finding a diverse range of opportunities and engaging all UCL students interested.

Please summarise why students should vote for you.

I'm genuinely passionate about the impact of volunteering for yourself and society. I enjoy investing my time into looking for as many opportunities and different roles that I can find and also finding new ones that could be of interest. I think someone who has been a volunteer in the past for such a long amount of time like myself has been able to truly understand what you want to take away from the experience. I will be able to express your views and opinions from more than just an outsider perspective. I look forward to supporting volunteering ideas and working alongside other individuals.
