As Turkish students living abroad, societies like this mean a lot more than just events, they’re a place where you can feel a bit closer to home. Whether it’s hearing Turkish again, meeting people who share the same culture, or just having a space where you instantly feel understood, that sense of community really matters. That’s why I want to contribute to it. I wish to make this society, a space where you feel supported and reconnect with your roots.
I’m standing for Media & Communications Officer because communication is what keeps a society alive. When people know what’s happening, and feel included in the community, they’re more likely to get involved. My goal would be to make sure no one ever feels like they’re missing out. I’d focus on making announcements clear, regular and engaging across multiple platforms, while also sharing highlights from events and moments from our community. I’d help create a more centralised place where Turkish students can easily share useful information and tips about housing, visas, or other challenges we collectively face, so members of the society can support each other more.
I’d also love to help strengthen how the Turkish Society connects with the wider university by collaborating more with other international societies and making sure what we’re doing reaches more people across UCL. Our culture is something worth sharing, and good communication can help bring both our community and the wider UCL student body together.
As an active member of the UCL Turkish Society, I’ve experienced firsthand how powerful our community can be. Having performed at society ceremonies and participated in many events, I understand both the spirit of the society and the importance of representing it.
By being elected as the Media & Communications Officer, I aim to make the UCL Turkish Society’s online presence more engaging and creative. With my experience in social media management and marketing, I plan to strengthen our visual identity. I believe that social media should not just announce events, but tell the story of our society. I’m excited to help UCL Turkish Society grow, connect, and inspire.
