Choo Choo! My name’s Tilak, and I’ll first tell you a bit about myself and why I love (and sometimes hate) transport, before I get into why I think I’d be the best Treasurer this soc has ever seen (sorry Maliha❤️)!
I’m a first year doing Geography and Economics. My favourite Tube line is the Met line, definitely not because I live on the Met, least favourite is the Northern - too many branches, too noisy etc. I’ve been on the metro in Mumbai, Paris and Barcelona, but never been on the London Trams.
As your Treasurer, I will work with the President to assist with room bookings, and other committee members to ensure you have the best transport-related talk, trips and socials ever. I’ll liase with SU Finance to apply for grant funding for INFINITE PIZZA SOCIALS🍕🍕🍕.
I was the Treasurer of the Sixth Form Committee, where I learnt skills such as managing the committee budget, communicating with the committee and attention to detail. I oversaw the booking process and financials of Year 13 Prom and Yearbook, all skills I will utilise as your Treasurer!
As First Year Rep of the UCL Rock Metal Society🤘🏾, I’ve seen how a Society operates, and have helped to organise events and assist committee members, which I will be able to bring to the table as Treasurer of TfL Soc!
I’ll remain approachable to all society members if you want to yap about anything, life, trains, cycling (I promise I don’t bite 🥰), and will (continue to🤭) talk regularly on the WhatsApp GC!
Vote Tilak for Treasurer!
Unlike Crossrail or HS2, this Treasurer will deliver TfL Society events on time and under budget! For the price of a Zone 1 Tube fare, I'll implement the full package of speaker events, walking tours and visits to heritage railways, museums and depots. There's something for everyone! Vote Matthew for:
- Visits further afield, such as to the York Railway Museum, Didcot and Locomotion
- Visits to the London Transport Museum at Covent Garden and Acton
- Visits to the Ruislip Lido Railway, Epping Ongar Railway and Bluebell Railway
- Speaker events and panels with transport industry professionals
- Events with people like Jago Hazzard and Luke Agbaimoni from the Tube Mapper Project
I know what things should cost in group bookings to museums, speaker fees and travel costs. I will keep a steady hand in keeping costs down, make sure that everyone gets value for money and keep a balanced budget, which is more than can be said for the majority of transport infrastructure projects. It's nice to serve a society I love so much and to see it grow and flourish. Also, as someone who's been to many new station and bus route openings and am an avid train enthusiast myself, I can talk about all things TfL and transport-related non-stop!
