Zhimei Wang

I am running for President of the UCL Tea Society because tea has always been more than a hobby for me—it is a long-standing passion and an important part of my cultural identity. I frequently travel to Wuyi Mountain in Fujian, China, where I study tea brewing techniques with professional tea masters. During my undergraduate studies in Japan, I served as a recommended representative of the International Tea Association, and while on exchange at UCL, I actively promoted East Asian tea culture on campus.

In Term 1, I assisted the President in planning and organising our weekly tea ceremony sessions, helping to ensure the smooth operation of each event. As an erhu and bamboo flute player and a member of the You Chun Lai Ensemble, I also introduced elements of traditional Chinese music into Tea Society events, expanding the artistic dimension of our activities. I was involved in our collaboration with Kew Gardens, which provided valuable opportunities to present Chinese tea culture in a broader cultural setting.

In Term 2, with the guidance of senior members, I developed collaborative events with CSSA, the Mandarin Education Society, UCL Students’ Union, and the UCL Mahjong Society, all of which received very positive feedback.

If elected, I will further expand our collaborative partnerships with other societies. My goal is to introduce Chinese tea culture to a wider international audience and help more people fall in love with Chinese tea.
