My name is Tanisha, I am currently a fresher and General Rep on subcommittee, applying for Social Secretary.
Being on subcommittee this year and helping out at events has shown me how much planning and teamwork goes into making Tamil Society successful. It’s made me even more motivated to take on a larger role in shaping our socials.
I previously founded and ran Tamil Society in sixth form, where I organised and promoted events. This strengthened my time management, organisation, communication and leadership skills which are all essential for the Social Sec role. Balancing responsibilities alongside academics taught me how to plan ahead, meet deadlines and stay reliable.
I’m outgoing and genuinely enjoy socialising, which I believe is important for a role centred around bringing people together. I also get along well with other subcommittee members running for committee roles, which will help ensure strong collaboration within committee.
If elected, I’d aim to diversify our socials and create more consistent engagement. Alongside larger events, I’d introduce more interactive and smaller-scale socials such as a saree draping competition, more active TamilSoc family events such as a family potluck, and regular games nights to strengthen bonds beyond the larger events, like club nights and panithuli.
Tamil Society means a lot to me as I’m incredibly proud of my heritage. I want to help build a bigger, stronger and welcoming Tamil community at UCL.
