Tamil Society: Social Media Rep

I want to be Social Representative for next year because I enjoy bringing people together and making events fun and memorable for everyone. I actively participate in many events so I understand what students enjoy and what keeps them excited to attend. I also keep up with trends and ideas through platforms like TikTok and Instagram, which helps me bring fresh, creative and engaging ideas to events that everyone will look forward to.Through my academic and community involvement, I have developed strong communication, organisation, and leadership skills. Supporting students has taught me patience, responsibility and how to create welcoming spaces where everyone feels included. I am good at managing my time, working with a team and turning plans into action. As Social Representative, I will focus on organizing exciting, well-planned events that encourage participation and build stronger connections within our community. I am dedicated, creative and ready to make next year enjoyable, engaging and memorable for everyone.

At the beginning of the year, I became aware of all the events and exciting socials that were available through the social media representation that Tamil society had: it was vibrant, on-point with the music and the vibe all the time. I've seen the energy and effort that goes into making all social events successful, I would love to have the opportunity to make sure our social media reflects and continues that same excitement next year. I also run my own TikTok account, so I'm familiar with creating short-term content and understanding current trends to increase engagement with tamils society. I'd love to use the small experience I have to make our page more interactive and trend-based posts, increasing the number of tiktoks and dance trends we do to build hype before events. I want our social media representation to feel engaging, dynamic and representative of everyone in Tamil society. 

I’m standing to be Social Media Rep because UCL Tamil Society has genuinely shaped my university experience. Through TSoc events, I’ve met so many new people and made some of my closest friends. I would love to give back by helping promote the society and its events through this role.

Even before coming to UCL, I admired the UCL Tamil Society social media pages. They were engaging and welcoming, and they played a big role in building my excitement about university. Social media creates first impressions, and I understand how important it is that every post makes people feel included and excited to get involved.

I have experience running social media for my school’s charity committee, where I helped plan a new marketing approach for our annual cabaret. Through creative promotion and strategic posting, we achieved a record number of attendees and raised the highest amount ever for the event. I also helped market my school’s podcast, coordinating with other schools to ensure content was posted at optimal times.

Alongside balancing medical school with volunteering roles, and previously juggling leadership positions with my A-levels, I’ve developed strong organisation and time-management skills. I’m creative, reliable and passionate about ensuring TSoc’s online presence reflects the welcoming and fun community it truly is.
