Sohan Das

Hi, I’m Sohan, a second-year med student, and here’s why I should be your Vice-President.

Surgical Society has been the source of some of my brightest highlights of year 1+2 medicine, and I want to give back to the society and help facilitate some of those experiences for other students. As a dedicated member and Logistics Officer for the Cardiothoracic Surgery Committee, I’ve helped run Freshers’ Fair, organised tutorials and conferences, and supported events across all of SurgSoc.

My experience as VP of UCL Music Society (one of UCL’s largest non-medical societies) has prepared me well for this role. I’ve worked closely with presidents and treasurers, organised many large-scale events, liaised with venues, vendors and the SU, streamlined finances, secured sponsorships, organised sub-group managers, and handled welfare matters. I understand how to keep a society running smoothly and effectively, and will use that knowledge to improve SurgSoc.

I’m committed to supporting every part of SurgSoc - from committee members and subspecialty chairs to our wider membership. I will be an accessible, reliable point of contact who is always there to help

Having worked within a subspecialty committee, I understand the challenges subcommittees face and the importance of clear communication with central leadership. As Vice-President, I will prioritise strengthening that link, ensuring subcommittees feel supported to deliver our conferences, talks, and workshops seamlessly.

Ritwik Pain

I have been an active member of UCL Surgical Society for four years and have held both committee and subcommittee roles, including Education Officer, Cardiothoracics Events Manager and INUGSC 2026 Workshops Programme Lead. These positions reflect my sustained commitment to the society and have allowed me to develop strong organisational, logistical and leadership skills.

My experiences that I feel make me best suited for this role:

  • Organisation of People and Logistics through my various committee roles both in and out of surgical society. This means I am confident I will be able to coordinate the specialty chairs to ensure high quality events are being delivered. This is also useful for overseeing the other initiatives our society runs and ensuring adequate equipment and resources are available and sourcing them if not.
  • Gaining lots of surgical contacts through my work as INUGSC 2026 Workshops Programme Lead I have developed many surgical contacts which will be important for organising our Surgical Society Gala as well as assisting specialty chairs in acquiring contacts for any events if needed.
  • Participating in several surgical society initiatives both as an organiser and attendee I have developed a good understanding of what works and where improvements can be made.

I look forward to elaborating more on the above at AGM and I would be honoured if you vote for me to take on this role. I am very excited to be running for this position and hope to be your future Vice President!
