In my first show at the CPT, [redacted] gave a 15 minute crash course on how to use the console and had to dip for a lecture, leaving me (lighting newbie) frantically googling how to make the lights flicker and, in a fit of desperation, attempting to read the etc ion manual under 2 minutes (it's 377 pages). It was super fun, I learned so much about lights and would definitely do it again. I've also helped out with other garage externals, including Tick Tick Boom.
Garage shows are great learning opportunities because there are far less cues compared to a blooms show, but still a good amount present. Experienced members generally have more time and mental capacity to share their knowledge, making tech more accessible to newer members. Also it's nice to escape the blooms.
Having been lead crew (SD) for Richard II and worked in most departments during my time in stage crew, on top of prodding shows before, I'm sure I can faciliate good communication with prod and smooth running of garage shows.
I haven't worked in many venues outside UCL but I believe that with common sense and Google (NOT ChatGPT), I can adapt quickly and deliver.
If elected, I would also like to push for a production meeting, and/or assigning of positions before garage shows happen, especially if there are a lot of people interested, so the get-in process is less chaotic, everyone can be assigned some sort of responsibility and the workflow more organized.
