Maia Rodriguez Laperche De Crozals

I’m standing to be Head of Socials for UCL Spanish & Latin American Society because socials shouldn’t just be “a night out” — they’re the Society’s infrastructure for belonging. This year, that means bigger, better, and broader: get ready for collabs with other universities, great parties, but also genuinely relaxed events where it’s easy to talk, connect, and come back again.

I want our socials to work for different kinds of members, not just the loudest or most confident in the room. Alongside flagship nights out, I’ll run regular low-pressure meet-ups: pub catch-ups, café hangs, film nights, and language-exchange-style socials where you can actually use your Spanish without it feeling like a class. I’m also excited to bring in new formats—speed dating and “meet-a-mate” mixers—because meeting people shouldn’t rely on luck or already having friends in the Society.

Crucially, I’ll keep socials accessible: clear prices in advance, affordable options every month, and welcome moments for newcomers so first events don’t feel cliquey. We’ll set expectations that make people feel safe and respected, and we’ll build a culture where you can come solo and still leave with people to message.

My aim is simple: more ways to show up, more chances to speak Spanish, and more opportunities to meet loooads of new people—so the Society feels like a community, not just an event page.
