Reema Zowayed

Having been First Year Representative last year and Web & Media Officer this year, I have spent the past two years involved in SEAD and developed a strong understanding of how the society operates and the opportunities it can create. Using this experience, I want to continue strengthening SEAD as a society that connects students across the Bartlett, professionally and socially.

A priority would be increasing the visibility of student work and creative opportunities. The Bartlett produces a lot of innovative work that deserves to be shared. SEAD could showcase projects across courses while also promoting external architecture competitions and introducing SEAD-led competitions with creative briefs. These could run during quieter academic periods with longer timelines, giving students the opportunity to gain recognition for their work (building your CVs!).

I would also like to expand industry connections by continuing office visits, internship panels, and introducing “day in the life” talks from alumni. Additionally, student skill-sharing sessions could allow students to exchange knowledge in software and portfolio preparation.

I believe community and collaboration are fundamental to succeeding in demanding courses like those at the Bartlett. Creating opportunities to connect — such as architectural trips, active events, and more — thus strengthening the community. Through my SEAD involvement, internships, and consultancy experience, I would work to turn these ideas into reality.

Over the past year, I’ve contributed to our community through action as an Academic Rep and Transition Mentor, actively participating in SEAD events and helping organise initiatives with ArabSoc.

As Academic Rep, I’ve been closely involved in advocating for our studio space and resources at the Bartlett while ensuring students are kept informed and their concerns are heard. I was also heavily involved in building for the Bartlett Summer Show and coordinated and presented the Talking Space exhibition for our year.

As President, I want SEAD to create clearer connections to the industry through more alumni events, office visits, and career talks, helping students explore different paths within architecture and engineering earlier and with more confidence. I aim to make those opportunities visible and accessible so people can start taking meaningful steps during university and not feel like they’re figuring it out too late.
