Snowsports has been a core part of my UCL life, and as such I’ve had to rely on welfare quite a few times these past couple of years. Whether it’s been when I injured myself at training, having a drunk crisis or just general support with stuff going on in the society. As such I feel like I’ve been able to learn what comes with being Vice President, being able to switch into serious mode when needed no matter the circumstance, listening to others, doing merch and also trying to liaise with other brands.
I feel like my time as Social Sec this year has also helped me with all of this. I’ve spoken with brands (yes, they may have been alcohol companies), I’ve interacted and gotten to know other members from different unis and I’ve also helped out during socials when someone is not feeling too well, possibly a tad too drunk. I feel like this has completely prepared me to be VP for next year. I want to ensure that everyone knows how to help someone if they’re too drunk, to be able to speak up if anything is wrong, help out the president with things they may need, get multiple types of merch out so members can buy it and rep UCL snowsports and try and secure us some extra funding through brands.
All in all, I am a present, proactive and engaged member of the society, and I’d bring the same energy to being VP! Not forgetting that I am here for another year and will be able to help out and possibly run again for the following year!
Hey everyone it's Oscar, I am a 2nd-year English student and this year's Media and Marketing. As Vice President and Welfare, I would draw from what I noticed was missing the most this year to continue what we got right in these areas:
- Make more merch: In the absence of a VP this year, there hasn’t been enough merch. I would reach out to companies early in the summer to plan designs and timings to make sure that by term time, we have more merch ready to go.
- Reach out to more sponsors and continue this year’s partnerships: This is something that we have been very successful with this year. I would retain the connections we have already made and start early by reaching out to companies over the summer to start the new term running!
- Keep people safe: This year, without an obvious person to turn to, unfortunately, the responsibility of welfare fell to people it shouldn't have. It would be my main priority to prevent this moving forward; it is unfair and puts our members at risk. Whether they have gotten too drunk, injured themselves or been attacked, we must have measures in place to protect our members during our events.
- Support the president and new committee: As well as our paid memebrs it would be my job to make sure the new committee is supported, and having experience on the committee will allow me to give advice and help other members when they need.
Overall, I have loved my last 2 years at Snowsports and want to help it stay as fun and as welcoming as it has been for me!
Hi, I’m Selin, a third year Biochemical Engineering student continuing onto a Master’s. Being Treasurer for the past year has given me a strong understanding of how Snowsports operates and how important clear communication and organisation are to the club’s success. As Vice President, I want to strengthen our external relationships with trip providers, venues and the Students’ Union to ensure our events are well run, accessible and sustainable as the club continues to grow.
I have already built relationships with external companies, most notably when I helped design and organise the production of our iconic Snowsports bandanas (fyi, still on sale, grab yours now for a low low cost before they sell out). From sourcing suppliers to coordinating design and delivery, I ensured the process ran smoothly while creating merchandise that strengthens our identity and generates long term value for the club.
After breaking my collarbone, I experienced firsthand how important it is to feel supported within the club (thank you again to our freestyle cap). University sport should be fun and challenging, but it must also be safe and inclusive. I want to ensure members feel comfortable raising concerns, whether related to injuries, wellbeing or club culture.
As Vice President, I would prioritise approachability, clear communication and proactive support, helping build a club where every member feels supported, represented and proud to be part of Snowsports.
