Sign Language Society: President

I am standing for President of the UCL Sign Language Society because I am genuinely passionate about sign language, Deaf awareness, and building an inclusive community at UCL! Over the past year as Events Officer, I have been actively involved in organising and hosting events that introduce more people to sign language and Deaf culture. For example, I have organised collaborative events with UCL Introverts and UCL RUMS Women’s Hockey, where we taught participants basic sign language in a fun and welcoming environment.

Beyond events, I have been a very active member of the society. I regularly help our instructors during taster sessions, supporting new learners and ensuring sessions run smoothly. I also contribute to the society’s outreach by creating Instagram posts, posting on our story, and staying engaged with the committee through our group chat to help coordinate activities and ideas :)

Through these experiences, I have developed a strong understanding of how the society operates and how we can continue to grow. As President, I would aim to expand collaborations with other societies, increase engagement across the student community, and continue creating an inclusive, welcoming space for anyone interested in learning sign language and supporting Deaf awareness at UCL!!!
