Because it's iconic!
All seriousness. Since joining I've been an extremely active member of the society, and am therefore fully willing to accept the responsibility it takes to keep it running!
I am a familiar face in Sci-fi's regular events such as board game nights and am very sociable, which would make me an ideal candidate for president as a role that would need consistent communication with the wider committee in terms of events, locations and organisation. Furthermore, if I were elected this year I could maintain this consistent presence of leadership across the next 2 years, encouraging new students to join the society by representing their interests as well as those who came before me who are currently active in the society.
As president, I would strive for community engagement and encourage the members to have a voice in what they want to see in the society. This society is full of creative and engaging people and I do not intend for that to go to waste! The role of president is one that I am aware will take effort and dedication, however i believe it is important as it allows the rest of the society members to relax and just enjoy the events organised by the committee.
Regardless of whether you put your vote with me, I am looking forward to collaborating with the committee in the coming terms, and I would be honoured to have the chance to lead it.
Initially, I joined this society after one game of blood on the clocktower. As many of my friends from the society may know, this game has grown to mean a lot to me (if you couldn't tell by the way I play so enthusiastically every time). The same goes for this society. Sci-Fi and Fantasy has similarly grown to mean a lot to me because of the friends I have made through it. Everyone in the society is amazing and I haven't found a more welcoming or friendly environment anywhere else. This is why I would like to run for president. I care too much about this society to let it die, and trust me when I say that I will do everything I can to make sure that our society not only doesn't die next year, but it grows. I have so many ideas for collaborations with other societies and more exciting events, so we aren't stuck yelling "on god I'm not lying to you- I am xyz" every single week.
As president, I want to help others create the same remarkable memories through this society, in the way it has done for me. Lastly, my candidate photo was taken in the archery range. For those who have the pleasure of not knowing what or where that is, the archery range is where all of the board games are stored. I have personally spent a lot of time last term cleaning it up, so if anything, I know how the society functions, and I will try my best to better this if I am chosen as president.
Obligatory nomination just in case. Please direct any votes to the other candidates if possible.
Some of you may know me as “the guy who sends emails sometimes”. Others may actually have met me and lived to tell the tale - or else decided I’m not that interesting and promptly forgotten about it.
Regardless, I’ve been a member here for two years, and Treasurer for one. I like to think that, through a fair bit of work behind the scenes, I’ve played a small, but significant, role in our society’s magnificent success under Jesse’s groundbreaking stewardship, alongside the marvelous contributions of our other brilliant committee members this year.
Sadly, Jesse won’t be with us much longer, so you’ll soon have to settle for a President from one of the candidates listed on this page. So, given I’m one of them, here’s a few things I’d like to do if elected:
- A variety of events beyond just board games / RPGs - we’ve been making good progress towards this already, but my intention is to go even further, from the very start.
- Increased collaboration with other societies, the SU and others. Again, as above.
- A systematic approach to acquiring feedback from members to help advise future plans.
Beyond the specifics, which I lack the space to fully elaborate here, my aim is as follows: drawing on my own experience and the perspective of members and committee colleagues, to build on Jesse’s legacy and help take SFFS to even greater heights.
