My name is Aliza, and I am a third-year ‘mature student’. I did my first degree in psychology at King’s College London (please don’t hold that against me!), and then I decided I wanted to go back to university to study pharmacy. Coming back to university was a big shift for me, having been working full-time for a year before that. I didn’t have much in common with most of my younger classmates and had other commitments and priorities that didn’t fit with typical university life, and joining societies to meet people. For the last three years, I’ve felt like there has been no representation or community for people who are coming to university when they’re older, whether they're coming back or coming for the first time. If elected, I want to build a community for older students. A place where we can ask each other for help and advice, learn from each other, or simply meet people who understand the stage of life you’re in. Whether you can come to every event or just have a coffee/tea/hot chocolate once a month, you're still part of the community.
