I'm Ishara and I'm so excited to be running for RUMS Sports & Societies VP!
Our sports and arts clubs truly are the heart of RUMS. Throughout my four years here, RUMS has been a pivotal part of my university experience, and I hope to be a friendly face who can encourage the same for others.
As current President of RUMS Badminton Club and Students for Global Health Society, as well as RUMS RAG VP 2024/25, I am no stranger to the endless emails, messages and planning that comes with a RUMS Vice President role. With the experience I have gained, alongside my strong leadership and organisational skills, I believe that I am adept for this role.
I aim to work alongside the club presidents to not only support them throughout the year and act a bridge to UCLMS faculty, but also encourage more students to join RUMS clubs and become part of the wider RUMS community. I hope to spread out the RUMS social calendar, holding events at more regular intervals throughout the year. Most importantly, I am a firm believer that if medicine falls through, event planning is my calling, so I pledge to host a cracking good Sports Ball (the highlight of the RUMS Sports and Societies social calendar)!
Vote for me and I will strive to continue fostering an inclusive space where we celebrate sports and arts achievements in RUMS and across the medical school! Whether you're a fresher or a final year, it's never too late to try something new or restart an old hobby, RUMS truly is welcome to all!
Thank you!
I’d be a strong Sports & Societies VP for RUMS Cricket because my passion for cricket genuinely goes beyond just turning up to play but I heavily care about the culture, the competitiveness, and the community around it. I want to build stronger links between cricket and other sports clubs, creating more inter-sport tournaments, joint training sessions, and bigger socials so we’re not operating in isolation but as part of a wider RUMS sports network. I believe cricket should be competitive on the pitch but also one of the most connected and active clubs off it. With my enthusiasm, drive, and willingness to take initiative, I’d work to grow participation, increase visibility, and make RUMS Cricket something people actively want to be involved in, whether they’re playing every week or just getting started.
