Punjabi Society: Social Secretary

After being part of UCL's Punjabi society for 2 years, I would like to become more involved with the committee. The role of social secretary is very suited to my personality as I am a very collaborative, bubbly person, whilst maintaining good organisation skills. I have attended so many Punjabi society events and believe that I would be able to introduce new ideas and creative ways to bring not only our society, but different university communities together. 

I love meeting new people and university events are one of the best places to provide that opportunity for others. I have experience with working as part of a group to host events and parties. This involved liaising with others to ensure proper planning as well as smooth running on the event days. I am confident that my communication skills would enable UCL Punjabi society to maintain and enhance good relations with other societies to host many more memorable events. 

I believe that the upholding of certain traditional events such as Mixies is great, although I am also excited for the opportunity to introduce successful events that have never been seen before at UCL (like this year's Lohri Ball). I am a very creative individual and cannot wait to  work with the committee to bounce around ideas and bring them to reality. 

I believe that as social secretary, my main aim will be making Punjabi society more memorable than ever. I will work towards introducing events that cater to all, across the year, that are super enjoyable!

I’m applying for the role of Social Secretary as I enjoy bringing people together and organising events that create a strong sense of community and I have had similar experience doing this in school.

Throughout school I played a major role in organising and leading charity initiatives, helping raise over £30,000 for charitable causes through events and fundraising campaigns. These initiatives involved planning events, coordinating teams, and encouraging large groups of people to get involved. Through this, I developed strong organisational, teamwork, and communication skills that are directly relevant to planning successful socials.

Alongside this, I also founded my school’s Economics & Finance Society, where I organised events that brought students together around shared interests. I am confident I can bring these expertise to the Punjabi Society.

Best and most important of all, I just think I'm a really fun guy.

I am excited to apply for the role of Social Secretary. Punjabi culture is all about energy, celebration, and community, and I would love to reflect that through fun, inclusive, and well-organised socials. I believe it’s important that every member feels welcome and connected, especially new students, and I’m enthusiastic about helping to create a strong sense of belonging within the society through memorable events throughout the year for Punjabi Society. I want to take on this role because I genuinely enjoy bringing people together and creating events that everyone can enjoy.

I am running for Social Secretary because I believe I have the experience, creativity and energy to elevate our events while keeping the welcoming atmosphere that makes this society special.

At school, I was President of the South Asian Society, where I organised our largest ever event, an Asian Celebration Evening attended by over 300 people. I led the planning from start to finish: marketing the event across the school, selling tickets, managing the budget responsibly, coordinating logistics and communicating with external food caterers to secure a successful partnership. The event was professionally executed and it taught me how to turn ideas into large-scale, memorable experiences.

I am naturally very social and approachable, and I enjoy bringing people together. Strong communication, organisation and leadership skills are essential for this role, and I have developed these through leading teams, delegating effectively and working under pressure.

I also have clear ideas to expand the society; through creative themed events, and stronger cross-society collaborations that reach beyond our usual circles. I want to help grow our presence while ensuring every event feels vibrant, welcoming and memorable.

I am ready to bring fresh ideas to make this year’s socials the best yet.
