As a 3rd/penultimate year Computer Science undergraduate, I have been fortunate to be part of this amazing society since my first year. I started off as a first year representative, then became treasurer last year, and am currently serving as the president of UCL Public Speaking Society. This year, my team and I worked hard to make public speaking more accessible through a reintroduction of the Speech Mentorship Programme, where we group members with similar career interests together to foster a more supportive and effective environment. We also hosted our 3rd consecutive UCL inter-university public speaking competition with 24 speakers from 9 universities - the biggest competition we have held by far. To provide more opportunities for our members, we also signed up for inter-uni competitions at Warwick, Nottingham, and LSE. Last but not least, we've updated the design and branding of UCLPS to reflect our values and make public speaking fun and approachable for all students regardless of experience.
In academic year 26-27, I hope to build on the incredible progress we have made so far by leading the next committee as president of the society.
One of the objectives for the new year is to further promote the Speech Mentorship Programme, thus providing more opportunities for members to meet like-minded people and make friends. I also plan to organise more social gatherings, such as Toastmaster club visits and game nights, for an even more welcoming and relaxing society!
